hi i'm 17 and have had anxiety on and off since i was 14 however, since july when i left school i have become a little more isolated as a lot of my friends are still in school. my anxiety flares up some days and calms other days i do a "mental health practitioner" (i am currently getting used to my new one) but one thing i've never really been told is how to stop an anxiety attack? my main thing with anxiety is constant worry when i'm alone for instance a bump/lump=i have cancer and actually end up looking up treatments also a stomach ache i interpret as appendicitis even thought it could just be a routine stomach ache. so basically one little thought no matter how irrational seems to spiral into a whole web or worries and fears can anybody tell me how to stop or at least improve this as it can really drag you down at times you feel you're going mad :S

I know how you feel, I do the same thing. Some how I can find a way to turn anything into something life threatening. I have a couple of ways to stop an anxiety issue when it pops up. Sometimes they work and sometimes they dont.

First one is to recognise the start of an anxiety issue and tell myself to stop and then distract myself with something else.

The other one can make me feel better or worse depending, I try and rationalize whatever it is away. I think of a similair situation where I have had the same thing or something else thats common and tell myself thats all it is. Hope that kinda helps...
