View Full Version : Are there any SSRI's that don't cause insomnia?

My doctor had me on 50 mg's Zoloft for two weeks, but I had to give it up due to the insomnia side effect (I had to take Zopiclone to fall asleep). Now he's got me on 50mg's Trazodone, which helps me fall asleep, but does nothing for my nighttime anxiety. I'm currently waking up early and would really like to get a good night's sleep. Any advice would be appreciated.

All SSRIs have insomnia as a potential side effect. Unfortunately, it is impossible to know who may or may not experience a given side effect from a given medication. If you choose to take an SSRI, the only thing you can REALLY do is to try various other ones to see if there is one which doesn't give you this side effect.

I've been on and off lexapro for the third time during the past two years, and every time I began taking it I had insomnia for about a week. The one thing I do find helpful is taking it in the morning instead of after lunch or dinner. Overall, I think that it just passes with time..
