risperdal

Has anyone been on risperdal for anxiety. My doctor just increased my dose of zoloft to 150 mg last week but it doesn't seem to be helping. She now suggests risperdal. Any information will help.

Risperdal is an antipsychotic. Honestly, I would NOT take this drug. Not only are side effects of antipsychotics downright hideous. But there is always the risk of tardive dyskinesia. This is a movement disorder that is a serious side effect of antipsychotics, and it can be permanent. The way I see it, you don't want to risk this. ESPECIALLY when such a heavy handed drug is not necessary to treat anxiety disorder. If you want to go the medication route, trying another SSRI would be a MUCH better way to go. Or better yet, try CBT.
