For me the anxiety is definitely cyclical. I am not sure why either. I try and watch my patterns of how I eat, exercise etc. to see if there is some sort of pattern there, but can't detect one. My anxiety builds up to where I can barely stand it. I get compulsive and sometimes do something like binge on alcohol and then it doesn't bother me so much for a couple of months. There for a time was almost a predictable three month cycle. It is not tied to work or other activities or stressors that I could tell. It does not however just come on suddenly when I am in a relaxed state. Some of what you speak seems syptomatic of a physical illness. I do have fairly regular check ups now with a GP.
