Hi all.
Just wanted to introduce myself to the forum and share my story. Hopefully I can get some strength and help from the great posts I've read on here.
It all started a while back. About 1.5 years ago my fiancee had a seizure. Then a year later another (about 3 months) ago. I was dealing fine with all of it, as I'm naturally a happy person who really doesn't suffer from any form of depression or mental instability. I've had very, very minor panic attacks in the past, but nothing I couldn't deal with on my own.
Well just 3 days ago Tera (my fiancee) had another seizure. It was the first one I've actually witnessed. During the seizure, and even after, I was pretty much fine. I had done a bunch of reading so I knew how to deal with it and that helped a ton. Well that night me and her just spend the rest of the evening cuddling and I watched over her closely. She was fine for the rest of the night. I thought things were fine and went to work the next day.
As work started, I was fine. I just went about my normal activities (I'm a Maint. Tech. at FedEx). About 6pm (3 hours into my shift) I started feeling a little strange. Almost like my heart was racing for no apparent reason. I ended up trying to go into a dark room and just calm myself down, but it wasn't happening. I got so worked up I almost called 911. I literally thought I was dying. I called my boss, told him I needed to leave and he obliged. I then went to my moms house (mind you I'm 30) because I was so jacked up all I could think was "I want my mommy". Sounds funny, but it was rational at the time. After getting to my moms she gave me a xanax and I calmed down in about a half hour.
Well, the next day I called and made a doctors appointment. I took a couple more xanax because the doc couldn't get me in until the following day. I went to work again, and with the help of the xanax, made it through the day.
Yesterday I went to the doctors and explained to him everything that has been going on. He did an EKG and it came out normal, blood pressure was good as well. He asked me a bunch of questions and decided to put me on Zoloft (once a day) and Xanax, as needed twice a day. He did caution to use the Xanax only if I needed it.
Today is day 3 and I had a horrible morning. I had to step outside at work, take a Xanax and just get into a sitting down fetal position to calm myself down. After that though, I've been fine for the past 3-4 hours.
It's been hard, but I think I'm already learning that for now the xanax is a good thing and I'll be able to get through this. Each day gets a bit easier. I'm very tired right now as it's been the longest 3 days of my life. I think this is a good thing though, because it means I'm calming down.
Well, that's my story. Hopefully I can stick around and get some help, and maybe help some other people out as well.
