Hi there :)
Aside from medication, reading and deep breathing exercises help. Also talking to people about how you feel (even if it's just online) or writing in a journal helps get it out of your head.

I noticed the similar thing. Although its more to do with the end of a wake cycle, be that day or night. Its more been awake for 14hrs then symptoms may be more likely to appear, irrelevant of the actual time of day or night.
I think Ponder? had a thread that said sleep heals anxiety toxins that form when we are awake? Unsure if that was him or someone / somewhere else that I read that.

Although reading before going to bed can help me sleep better, I actually find it easier to get to sleep if the book I'm reading is rather boring to me.
