Anyone else have bad travel anxiety? Supposed to be leaving in two days for a longer trip, but the more I think about it, the more anxious I get.

Yeah definitely. It's understandable because you're out of your comfort zone. I just went away for a week and in the days leading up to it I was CRYING with anxiety. That was partly because of the nature of the trip (the people involved) but still.

All the best!

Yep, just took a vacation trip to Asheville from here in Savannah. My anxiety was on high almost the whole vacation, go figure? Trying to focus on it for what it is at face value vs. over analyzing it for the negative/positive/etc. helped some. I also try and workout a lot to burn off all those stress hormones.

Has anyone ever cancelled a trip due to anxiety? I'm almost to that point. I just don't feel ready to travel outside of the country feeling like this.

You can cancel if you want, but if you go you don't have to worry about what-ifs :) Write plans and checklists for the trip. There are tons of success stories of people who had less panic attacks traveling!

We were trying to go to Aruba. Ending up having to cancel to try and figure out myself first. Definitely doesn't help with the anxiety though- now the boyfriend is upset with me, so that's some added stress.

Do you take any medications? You have to be very careful with benzodiazepines but they can definitely help.

It's good that you put yourself first. I'm usually the one to just motor through it, but it can totally ruin a trip. Keep us updated on your progress!

Restarted Lexapro about a month ago! My doctor actually gave me a prescription for xanax last week, but I'm very hesitant to take it. I can be a creature of habit.

The medications will help a lot. My sister in law takes Xanax for trips only. But if you are the type to get dependent on them, or not use them right, they can be a disaster.

She takes them for trips because she is afraid of airplanes.

I personally think the longer acting benzos are safer than Xanax (like Klonopin) because there's much less of a chance of getting addicted and much easier to taper off.

I have much anxiety before a trip. Twice I canceled it and the airline refunded or credited by account. You must get a doctor's letter.)
I don't know why...fear of the unknown and things that may go wrong.
Every time I end enjoying myself alone and my fears were unwarranted.
My medicine did not help much. Know as much as possible your agenda and every detail is planned.
