This is my first time taking a medication for anxiety. Is there anything I should know about celexa? I hear it's very bitter but thats about it. (Its a very low dose... 10 mg worth)

UPDATE: Heres some things about celexa which I have learned from these past 7 hours...
-You may get chest pains. I'm talking really bad, burning tight chest pains. Apparently this is the medication. This pain may spread through your arms too, that's normal, but you should still tell your doctor.
-I cannot sleep after taking the pill. Thats another side effect: Insomnia (didn't think it would start working this quickly...)
-If you're anything like me and you like to "research" (AKA FREAK YOURSELF OUT) your medication, I wouldn't look at the "side effects" online. They make it seem like common panic attack symptoms are dangerous and may affect your health, but I'm living proof that its not true. Again, consult your doctor, but don't freak out like I did.
-I've learned that I HATE CELEXA please get it out of my system

I haven't been on Celexa but been on a few different SSRIs - Prozac (still on now), Zoloft and Lexapro. The main thing is to be prepared for the anxiety to get worse for a while (a week or two). Some people get other side effects but my experience has just been increased anxiety. I'm not sure of dosages with Celexa but if it's a low dose you're starting on, that'll minimise side effects. Feeling worse is completely normal so hang in there. SSRIs aren't perfect and don't agree with everyone, but they've helped me out of some severe depressive episodes and can make quite a big difference to your mood.

All the best,

Sadly your sex life may be horrible. Having an orgasm is darn near impossible with many of the SSRI's. They don't work for me real well overall. GOOD LUCK

My brother switched to Effexor because of this and it helped :)

It is best to talk to the prescribing physician or pharmacist as they are most familiar with the side effects of any medication.
