So my therapist wants me to go back on medication--I have been having an increasing number of panic attacks. But I was on sertraline, which my medical provider husband says is by far the safest throughout pregnancy and nursing.

I would rather just deal with the anxiety than put my future baby at risk, but I would love to find a solution that won't harm my baby and also will help calm me down.

My side effects with the sertraline (Zoloft) weren't great.

Any thoughts?

Hey there,

I was on Zoloft during both and my daughter is 15yo. Good to know your husband says it's the safest because back then they obviously hadn't done as many studies (though my psychiatrist and GP both said it was ok to be on it). She was a totally healthy baby.. In fact she grew faster than the average growth charts and has never had any major health problems.

That said, I ended up with severe anxiety when she was about 18 months (due to lack of support and an emotionally abusive husband) and needed more than the Zoloft. I'd stopped nursing by then so that wasn't an issue but yeah my anxiety gets so bad SSRIs don't cut it after a while. So even if you do decide to take it during pregnancy/nursing, you still need a good support network because babies are stressful!

All the best,
