Hey all. I've been having some stomach issues related to anxiety and was wondering if anyone had any tips or tricks on how to calm down your stomach or digestive system when your having anxiety? Normally my anxiety is pretty under control but I've been going through a rough patch and its manifesting pretty evidently by physical symptoms. Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide. :)

I know the feeling I get it too. How long has it been going on? Probiotics do a pretty good job if the anxiety is not chronic

Fixmybrokenmind,
I've only had it the last few days but I used to get it all the time. As for whether my anxiety is chronic or not I have anxiety pretty regularly. I'm just looking for ways to cope.

How does anxiety feel for you? Is it in your body like a tight chest/racing heart, in the head like worry or a mix of both?

Ginger is very calming for the stomach. You could try ginger ale (maybe flat by leaving it out a bit to get rid of the carbonation?) It helps a lot of people because the ginger ale contains the ginger that calms the stomach. If that doesn't work go to Trader Joe's and get some "ginger chews."

Actually I think Lemon and Ginger tea is best.

More in my head than anything. I'm on medication so I rarely get the tight chest/racing heart symptoms.

It is your mind, rather than the physical symptoms themselves, that determine the quality of digestive system

It happens to me to. It comes and goes. It's no fun but try to relax (exercise, sleep, yoga, meditate, etc.) and it'll hopefully fade.

Anxiety has always caused stomach problems for me. I take omeprazole once a day to help keep it under control. I also eat yogurt and try to avoid spicy foods. +1 on the ginger ale, that works for me as well.

I drink Chamomile tea to calm down any anxiety-related stomach issues.

Try this recipe for the ultimate stress buster tea.

1 Nightime tea bag (contains chamomille and a lot of other goodies)
1 Peppermint tea bag
25 drops of passionflower extract from a tincture.

Extremely relaxing. I would not try this before driving though.
