I was taking citalopram for anxiety for about 2 months. After two months I decided I wanted to stop so I spent a week or two taking my 10mg dose every other day. Last week I decided to stop. Since then I have felt weird, my head feels kind of fuzzy, tingly and my skin feels sensitive. I also feel achy all over. Anyone else experience this? I'm wondering if these are common withdraw symptoms. Who knows? maybe I am actually just getting sick but it seems like a strange coincidence that it is happening right when I stop this drug.

You have adopted an ineffective tapering method.

An option is to resume at last dosage; stabilise for around a couple of weeks, then wean off slowly, with a 10% reduction weekly.

One way is to get a mortar, and pestle, and crush tablets to a powder; put it in a long, thin line, and work out correct proportions, perhaps cutting the line in half once, and then repeatedly (measurements need only be approximate). A more accurate way is to dissolve them in water, and use a graduated medication measuring container, from a pharmacy.

Another is to visit http://theroadback.org and download their Ebooklet.

Hi I was prescribed 20mg of this for my anxiety, I have only been taking it 2 days but I've had a few panic attacks and my anxiety is through the roof, the doctor told me if it makes my anxiety worse to stop taking it.

I was wondering if people had similar experiences and do they disappear after a week or so and if so just struggle through it till then or am I best to do what the doctor says and stop taking them.

I think it can cause panic in some, but my feeling is that it might be psychological worries that the new strange drug is going to harm you.

Also, it doesn't help in the beginning so if you were having panic prior to this, it may just be a continuation of that.

I found it to be a huge help but it takes about 3 weeks to fully kick in.

You should give yourself several weeks to taper off. For example if you are on 20mg:

10 days at 15mg
10 days at 10mg
10 days at 5mg
2 weeks at 2.5mg

It takes longer but you'll get a LOT less withdrawal problems. I've done it several times.

Thanks for the reply I was on 20mg for 1 half years this is my second time on citalopram I was on them before 7 years ago for 9 months with no problems coming off them.
I'll stay on 10mg for a while and see how it goes then try to reduce slower

I really don't know if to continue take 10mg tomorrow or carry on with the withdrawal process I wish I never stopped but now feel like I've come to far after 6 days I don't know what affect taking the one dose will have on me will I have to start from scratch or will the process just continue. Has anyone got advice please I am back in work soon and need to get it together. I am the bread winner and have a 9 month old daughter I can't afford to be out of work or lose my job

Good luck! Just do it slow and take your time and you'll have only mild withdrawals if any at all. This is the only way to do it. Cold turkey is not an option.
