Hi everyone,

I finally found the courage to see my doctor for the first time yesterday about my anxiety and depression and was prescribed 20mg fluoxetine and to go back in 4 weeks. He told me the medication has strong side effects but told me to carry on taking them as these should go in 3-6 weeks.
I took my first dose yesterday after my appointment at 12pm and by the evening I was shaking, had a few leg spasms and couldn't get to sleep at all until 4am.
Are these common side effects?
I dont like feeling this way and don't know how I will last 3-6 weeks with them.

I also take 25mg amitriptyline in the morning and 10mg amitriptyline at night as well as 4x30mg dihydrocodeine daily for my TMJ disorder but never had any side effects from these medications in over 5 years.

welcome to the forum. Well you really are into meds. If you want you may continue to take them but they do not help that much. I can not take any AD, must be resistant to the poison. I have awful side effects, constant panic attack. You could find Medication Subforum where is like 25 threads about side effects of medication............ People share their experiences
How old are you anyway, and why so much meds?

I'm 28 on Saturday.
I take those meds for nerve and joint pain from my tempromandibular joint disorder and they have helped so much over the years.

You're now taking two different antidepressants. It does seem like a lot of medication. I think I would see another doctor in addition to this one or some type of specialist. I can tell you that for some people Prozac is activating, and they end up taking it in the morning, but the shaking and leg spasms I don't know about. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking all of that with the advice of just one doctor. Plus, I think he should have started you off with 10 mg of Prozac until your body got used to that, and then if it agreed with you, gradually go up to 20 mg. I don't know anything about dihydrocodeine, but it must be a strong medication.

I asked my wife who is a pharmacist and she said your dose of Prozac is not high. She sees some people who take both Prozac and Amitriptyline. She said all side effects that persist should
be reported to your physician.

i tried prozac earlier this year - worst time of my life. I've never felt as bad before. terrible insomnia and anxiety feeling. stop and look for something else, it takes time to find the right fit.
