View Full Version : Norophobia + Question about therapy

So one of my phobias is norophobia (fear of norovirus or stomach bugs). So this morning I woke up and I gagged and had an acid taste in my mouth. This didn't worry me too much because I have acid reflux (being managed, it only happens once in a while now). I thought I was only having a lapse. But then later on, I get a stomach ache and nausea. So I think, "what if this is noro?" And the night before I had a night sweat, but I didn't think much of it, since I get those from time to time. Thought maybe it could have just been from being anxious the day before.

I'm doing better now, have a heating pad on my stomach and am chewing fennel seeds. My anxiety went down, and so did my nausea and stomach pain. Hopefully this isn't the start of norovirus, and it was only anxiety this whole day.

Anyway, I was looking for treatment options. I do have general anxiety as well, so I'm not sure exposure therapy would work. Sometimes my anxiety comes from no triggers at all, and I can't even pinpoint what I'm even anxious about. Sometimes I begin hyperventilating and my heart pounds, and I have a feeling of intense fear inside me, but I don't even know why I'm feeling afraid, or what caused it at that moment.

I was wondering, what is the best approach for someone who does have phobias, but also has random anxiety that is hard to pinpoint the cause? Exposure therapy wouldn't work because sometimes I just get anxiety for no apparent reason.

I do have coping methods, but I really want to be completely cured. Thanks in advance!

Hey citrusbliss,

My information is that the only two anxiety spectrum disorders that are curable are PTSD and DID / MPD (Dissociative Identity Disorder) but there are various techniques and treatments (pharmaceutical, herbal, and non herbal, but natural) for the others.

If you want to minimise your chances of becoming infected, or having a recurrence of existing ones, you can make your body an inhospitable environment for the microbes causing them to reproduce in; see http://alternative-health.weebly.com/homemade-antiviral-antibacterial--antifungal-product.html

Check out http://www.vitamindwiki.com/Immunity such as:

Give the Meridian Tapping Technique / EFT a good tryout, to see if it helps you. It is free via mercola.com or www.tapping.com (13 free videos), or www.eftuniverse.com or www.emofree.com or one of the many YouTube videos. Google: "YouTube; EFT videos".
Professionally instructed is generally preferable (Google: therapists; EFT; [your location] or mercola.com has a locator). - There is a version for use in public places at http://eft.mercola.com (if you like, you can claim to have a headache, as you employ the acupressure massage / tapping on your temples, but you would then be restricted to subvocalising: saying it to yourself in your mind: "Even though I have anxiety, I deeply and completely accept myself)."

You could enhance your microbiome (mainly the beneficial bacteria in your digestive tract, which produce a large proportion of your neurotransmitters, and some vitamins) by regular consumption of fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, tofu, natto, and take a probiotic, preferably a yogurt containing Shirota, or one with an enteric coating; Google supplies, or mercola.com have some. http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2013/06/20/gut-brain-connection.aspx refers.

Adopt a diet with minimal sugars and / or highly processed grain products, with more non starchy vegetables, protein, nuts, some complex carbohydrates, such as legumes, (beans, peas, lentils and chickpeas) and brown rice, some sourdough rye bread or seed and nutloaf, and 2, or 3 pieces of fruit, as well as probiotic yoghurt; see http://www.google.com/search?q=mercola+probiotic&hl=en&gbv=2&oq=mercola%3B+&gs_l=heirloom-serp.1.5.0l10.600390.608268.0.613200.11.4.0.0.0.0. 1594.2683.5-2j8-1.3.0.msedr...0...1ac.1.34.heirloom-serp..8.3.2682.dGRp4lhiUH0
