View Full Version : Hello there.

I'm finally reaching out after many years of suffering in silence from chronic anxiety. I was diagnosed with panic disorder when I was 20, and after many months of CBT and other helpful therapies/medications, I have been able to stay attacks off enough where nightly ER visits became less seldom, and now nonexistent. However, anxiety is almost always at one level or another, everyday. Life's stressors are now too many for me to naively brave through on my own. Recently, I have lost mostly everything I have cared about. The loneliness and increasing hopelessness is proving very difficult to deal with on my own. Despite, it seems, always being anxiety ridden, I have not had a panic attack in many years, but this depression... I could use some good people in my life.

Hey mel,

There is a section on depression here which is worthwhile trying, but in order to increase the chances of finding what you seek, some other websites are solely devoted to helping people suffering from depression.

CHATROOMS/FORUMS: www.depressionchat.com/ and www.depressionforums.org/ and http://www.depressiontribe.com/ and http://www.careplace.com/

Online help for those with thoughts of suicide is at: www.yellowribbon.org/ Email:[email protected] Phone: (U.S.A.) 303 429 3530.

The Samaritans organisation provides more generalised advice (www.samaritans.org/talk/local_branch is operating in many countries, with multiple branches) email: [email protected]

http://hopeline.com/ has information about depression (and suicide) also has resources, including a free telephone line to speak with a trained individual. Their number is 1.800.442.HOPE. Google those phone no.s to ensure they remain operative.

Google more/newer websites; check out https://www.google.com.au/search?client=opera&q=depression%3B+support+groups%3B+list&sourceid=opera&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8#q=depression%3B+support+groups%3B+list%3B+USA

Thanks for the info.

Perhaps the depression groups will redirect me, though thoughtfully, with some helpful links to an anxiety group; my DSM Dxs are PD/GAD, I lack ideation and intent, and have situational depression; albeit a very crappy situation. I deal with anxiety. So, anyone who feels I meet their criteria and would like honest human interaction, please let me know.

I'm so glad you reached out here. It sounds as if you've come a long way. We must celebrate each success, right?

Last year I was a point in my life where I was feeling so low I thought I'd never recover. How did I recover? I ran go God and hung on as tight as I could. I'm not sure what your faith life is like, but if I could offer one piece of advice, it would be to pray, pray, pray. Now I read devotionals each day first thing in the morning, and that gets me settled right where I should be. Some of my favorite apps with devotionals are Joel Osteen, Rick Warren's Daily Hope, and Joyce Meyer. I would highly recommend dipping your toe in to one of those and see if it helps you. Prayer in all things has completely changed my life for the better.

If you can find a church that has the program "Celebrate Recovery" I'd highly recommend that as well. I've never been around a more loving, supportive group of people. We're all broken, but when we cling to and support each other, it makes it all so much better. There's a book I read that was invaluable: "Battlefield of the Mind." You may want to give that a try.

Reaching out for help is vital, and I'm so glad you did it here. Just know that you are dearly loved, you are SO valuable, and you are NOT alone.

Pausing to pray for you now...

Thank you. Prayer has been the biggest part of my life. I'm currently looking for a church, as I'm in a new area. However, until I can establish more permanent roots, a site like this is such a blessing. Thank you for the encouragement and advice. God bless you!
