My doctor prescribed me 10mg of citalopram for anxiety over a month ago and it sat in my cabinet because I was too scared to take it. Well day one, 12 hours gone by and no real side effects so far. I am still taking xanax though so I do have a question.

My question is, for people who have taken the two drugs, after the celexa kicks in will it be easy to stop the xanax? I've been taking xanax close to everyday for a month and a half (mostly small doses of .25mg, sometimes .5mg) I am hoping to stop using it soon!

Give it time to kick in, but once the Celexa starts working well (3 weeks or so) you will be able to let go of the Xanax probably. In the meantime, try to cut back on the Xanax and use as little as possible, if your goal is to get off of it.

Thanks for the advice. So far the only side effect from the celexa seems to be a slight increase in anxiety. The doctor gave me another prescription for xanax to help with that while it kicks in. I have been taking 0.5mg of xanax in the mornings (once a day) all week. I generally try to take days off but hopefully I can start to ween off of it soon.
