For the past two months I've experienced a ton of anxiety symptoms, pins and needles, racing heart beat, tightness in throat. But the one thing that is really making me uncomfortable is this omnipresent tightness in my upper abdomen, right between my sternum and belly button. When I am sitting down it isn't too bad but when I stand up it feels so tight that it is hard to breathe the way I normally do which is very stressful. Anyone else experience this? If so, let me know if you have any remedies!

Thanks!

Spartacus1983,

You have to go to a doctor. You can't say what exactly is, but surely it is not to be worried about, you have just to ask to some doctors. You can't find someone here who had the same situations because surely they could be related to different causes.

The first thing to understand is to be sure to have panic attacks because of some alert of our body. So, the first rule is to go do a doctor for some simptomos that may be strange.

Here you can find a thread on the importance to understand why panic attacks happen: http://anxietyforum.net/forum/showthread.php?34592-It-is-important-to-understand-why-panic-attacks-happen

I've actually been to several doctors. They all think it's due to anxiety even though this tightness is still present when I'm not feeling anxious! I've had a chest x ray, an abdominal ultra sound and an MRI. All came back clean. I do have an appt. With a GI specialist but that isn't for another month. I'm going to start Citalopram today and see if that helps with my physical symptoms...We shall see.

It's good to hear someone else has experienced this. I can't seem to belly breathe when I stand up and it's driving me crazy! Any else experience this?

I read somewhere a while back that there is a "ring" around your body there that will tighten with anxiety. I get it as well and sometimes stretching will help. With me it goes around my back.

It may just be muscular related.
