Hi everybody, this is my first post on here. Anyway, I was given 10 my of citalopram by my psychiatrist and being skeptic of medication and highly phramocophobic it took me a long time to take but finally did it to stop my increasingly overwhelming panic attacks, generalized anxiety, and depression. I took the 10mg and a couple hours later started feeling light headed resulting in a massive panic attack and have been panicking like crazy for the past couple days and had almost no appetite (it's been almost 48 hours since I've taken the drug). I also stopped taking the drug after just that one time, but I still feel dizzy and light headed and this is causing me to panoc a great amount. When will this light headed was and dizziness go away? Could it be a withdrawal symptom even though the drug was taken by me only one time? Thanks.

Hey Kyle S,

It appears to be a side effect, as it takes a fair while of regular use, then discontinuation for withdrawal symptoms to occur.

It's likely that your doctor would want to try you on another medication such as Zoloft, because that's what they are trained to do, but you may want to try the herbal and / or non herbal anxiolytics (anti-anxiety products) first, along with the following:

Learn and develop proficiency in an anti-panic attack breathing method to use in the event of one occurring. Also learn, and employ either Progressive Muscle Relaxation ( http://www.drcoxconsulting.com/managing-stress.html ) or acupressure tapping / EFT, whichever you find most effective.

Hoping something in the above helps.

You are fine. It takes 4 weeks for a person to really feel the effects of an antidepressant. You do not need to worry at all. I have been on different antidepressants for years, and I know that one pill, on one day, won't hurt you.
