Alright so I'm kind of curious if what I'm experiencing is similar to others experiences on this med. I started out with 20 mg and was on that for about a month or so. My pdoc decided that he would raise my dose to 40 mg about a week ago.

One of the biggest things I've noticed about Celexa is how tired that it makes me. It doesn't matter when I take it I constantly feel like I'm walking through a fog. Also the increase in Celexa has pretty much destroyed my appetite. I never feel hungry, I pretty much just take a guess whether I'm feeling hungry around meal times and eat a little something just to make sure I can keep going.

I went from still feeling depressed and slightly anxious on 20 mg to now I don't feel anything. I think that the increase has pretty much taken away any emotions that I would have on a day to day basis.

Just looking for anyone who has been on Celexa to see if they have had similar experiences.

What SSRIs have you tried previously, Superchick?

Actually, this is one of the downsides of Celexa. It does tend to make a small number of people very tired. I never experienced that symptom myself, but I've spoken to quite a few people who have.

I've been on several SSRI's and SNRI's over the years those are:Effexor, Paxil, Lexapro and Cymbalta. I suppose I should have mentioned that I'm on a small dosage of Abilify as well (2 mg) but that has been a steady dose for a few months now.

Lexapro is a new and improved version of Celexa, supposedly works like Celexa without all the side effects. So I'm not surprised that the Celexa makes you tired. You must not have liked the Lexapro since you no longer take that.

It wasn't so much that I didn't like the Lexapro, it didn't like me. I ended up having pretty significant side effects from taking it. Mainly it made me nauseous to the point where I was hardly eating anything. Completely eliminated my appetite.

I'm starting to acclimate to the Celexa a bit more now though. The sleepiness during the day has reduced significantly but that's probably due to my taking in earlier than I was during the day. Emotionally I'm starting to feel better as well. I still have bad days but they aren't as bad as they used to be. :)

That is really interesting. The reason why I came on this forum yesterday is because the Lexapro is making me sooo tired. I only take 10 mg, but it just causes so much fatigue. I wish it would knock out my appetite but it increases my appetite. I'm starting to realize each medication affects each person differently, and it is a matter of trial and error. I'm thinking of trying Zoloft, but my p-doc insists it will only make me more tired than the Lexpro. I wish you all the best on the Celexa and hope it works well for you.

Escitalopram (Lexapro) makes me tired, and I think it might decrease my appetite. So I am familiar with these side effects. Paroxetine (Paxil) was somewhat stimulating, but escitalopram is not.

Anti depressants have some side effects like appetite problems, tiredness, etc.
I have felt similar issues in the beginning of my treatment, but now it works well for me.

Hi everyone...i have recently started using essential oils myself for anxiety and depression and found it to be extremely helpful to get off of SSRIs. I have had many side effects on Celexa and found these to be great alternative and natural... if anyone wants more info id be happy to help!!!
