Hello everyone,
This is my first post. I am the mom of an 18 yo college freshman female. She has multiple diagnoses including Asperger's, ADHD, Mood disorder NOS. She has EXTREME anxiety and of course resulting depression due to the fallout of the anxiety.
One thing I've noticed is that when my daughter gets medicated and the anxiety and depression is relieved, she begins to sneak food and binge eat. Last spring the binge eating had gotten really extreme, and she decided to wean off the Lexapro. Indeed the eating stopped in its tracks (after a prolonged weaning from the Lex), she lost all the extra weight, and her anxiety slowly went through the roof.
At the start of the semester, she began Effexor, as she was unable to socially do almost anything on campus. She began at 37.5 mgs, and had a great response almost immediately. She also began to sneak food now and again. After a month on the starting dose of Effexor, she was not doing as well with the anxiety anymore, and last week the dose was raised to 75 mg per day.
The sneaking and binge eating is now out of control. Why would this be? She even takes Vyvanse for ADHD, which is supposed to be a new treatment for binge eating, but it doesn't prevent it at all. Does anyone have any insight on this? As a result of the binge eating, she will gain weight, which causes depression, and the cycle continues.
On a side note, my daughter still lives at home and commutes to college. She needs a great deal of support due to the Asperger's etc.
Thanks in advance,
C
