Has anyone found any use from herbal medications? I'm feeling better on St John's wort - just wondering if anyone has other suggestions?

There are products out there that claim to relieve anxiety, things like rescue remedy, i can't comment on whether that one works or not as it contains alcohol which i can't have.

Nothing herbal has ever taken the edge off acute anxiety for me. I do take stuff to help my nervous system in the long run though, like chamomile, passionflower, etc etc. I don't know if it works but it can't hurt :)

Maybe a late reply, but I hope you read this eventually.

Take a look at PanicCured's post in the general discussion forum, he recommends passionflower extract, suntheanine, and drinking chamomile tea. I ordered these and took them for several months, I noticed that my anxiety was cured... I'd say anywhere from 20% to 40%, quite a great amount. However when I quit I didn't really notice myself getting more anxious (until I dropped to a fourth of my medication)

They're definitely worth a shot, I'm probably going to order some more whenever I can scrape together enough cash.

BAch rescue is bullshit Kixi and does not help the only herb that help is passion flower, and lemon balm, people say chamomile helps but I had not seen any effects on me. I am dealing with anxiety at least twice longer than age of OP and I make my own herbal remedies. Lemon balm extract is what helps a bit with combination of my meds. I agree with Gypsy. With full blown anxiety nothing herbal helps, most of that herbal remedies is placebo effect, and a lot of business to producers. Panic's thread is good for someone who is 14 and still can have some effect of the herbals.

Dahila-Not to hack the thread but I'm curious about using some herbal remedies along with my meds. How do I find out whether something will interact with my meds or not? I'm on Abilify and Celexa.

What are you thinking of taking, Chick?

I've used this site a fair bit http://reference.medscape.com/drug-interactionchecker

Still, I'm not sure if any one tool can be totally reliable when it comes to interactions, so have tried to do my own research on top.

superchick chamomile will not interact, Lemon balm is ok, St. Worth is not recommended, and you actually can use passion flower, just in moderate amount. Not many people know that mint helps to calm down the nerves, many think it is the opposite, stimulant but it is not. White tea helps with sleep and calm one down too. Recommended at evening. I would check in pharmacy what you can take. They know better than doctors about interaction.
Gingo biloba can reverse the medication so is not good, but is very good when someone have memory problems. Actually do not touch the passion flower my dear, it is causing interaction, maybe not serious, but why take a chance.
There is something that help everyone!!!
it is Meditation!

Lol, I like how you put it in bold, Dahila. Yeah, meditation is great for controlling and even getting rid of anxiety. Anybody with anxiety who doesn't meditate is nuts. :)

John, do breathing exercises instead. That way you're doing something more physical. I know all about meditation and ADD! :)

I wonder...............when you go into woods, waiting for deer to show, what do you do?
Waiting in silence and without any movement is a kind of meditation, especially when you not solving any problem at the time being...........I get to do it so many times and in so many places, sometimes it is simply unwise, while driving do not do any breathing exercisees:)))

Lol, I think those morning peanuts are starting to turn you into one maybe. ;)

Yeah, I probably should have said it's nuts to not at least try meditation! I know some people do find it difficult. For a while I did too. My OCD made it really hard. In the end I found a type that works with me, but it's probably a type not many people do.

Dahls is right about any intense focus being a meditation. Walking through the park and focusing on the sounds of the leaves beneath your feet... meditation. My mum does colouring. Anything that stops the mind from thinking for 10 minutes is awesome.

Don't even breathe at all when you're driving. It's dangerous. Did you know 100% of car accidents are caused by breathing people?

Not sure. Just looking for something additional to use. My meds only do so much and sometime even my coping skills with the meds only reduce the anxiety and depression so much. I've had a lot of med adjustments in the last few months.

These games actually do help with my anxiety quite a lot! Except when they get too hard and I end up in fits of anger...

Oh I end up playing for way too long, but it does calm my anxiety :) I'm playing one called AlphaBetty Saga atm, where you have to make words. It was really fun at the start but not so much at level 180 LOL.
