Allergic to Prozac

I have had anxiety and OCD since I was a little, but it is getting worse. I am a checker and straightener. I don't get enough sleep as I take so long to get to bed. I also have some obsessional thoughts. I tried Prozac several years ago, but after a month I had an allergic reaction and came out in big itchy lumps and had to go off it. For the last few years I have been on Tofranil at night and Lorazapam occasionally when needed, but it is not working for the anxiety. The doctor prescribed Zoloft, but I took half a pill and was up and down all night with anxiety and unable to get any sleep and felt dreadful the next day and haven't taken any since. I should give the Zoloft another try, but if I was allergic to Prozac could I be allergic to Zoloft as well?

Hey there,

I've been on both (and countless others). These meds knock you around bigtime for about a week or two. I don't know about the allergy thing but just be aware they do take quite a while to have any positive effect. None of them really fix the anxiety directly but they can give you a lot more confidence socially, which helps the anxiety.

Apparently Luvox is the one they use for OCD. You should ask your doc about that.
