View Full Version : Scared to go back to Work

Hi, I'm new to this site so I hope I'm posting in the right place.
For the last five days, I've been really sick with a bad bout of flu, I can't even get out of bed. When I told my work, they were a bit rude about it, wanting to know when I'd be better, etc. Of course, I told them I wasn't sure, it could be few days or a week. I've been really sick, it's not just that flu people get for 2-3 days and they are better - I been stuck in bed with chills and fever this whole time. My work wants a doctor's note, but I can't see a doctor because I can't afford insurance. I get anxiety very bad just thinking about being around the people at work. I'm scared to death thinking about when I have to return to work, how they will respond, me gone for possibly over a week and no doctor's note. I work retail, it's not like it's a big job or anything, but these people can have brutal attitudes that makes me just want to crawl in a hole. My husband has been trying to reassure me everything will be ok, but I been seriously panicking about it. Please, is the doctor's note a big deal, are they going to think I'm a liar? I'm afraid to confront them when I get better.

Hi Berry Bunny, first of all welcome. I'm sorry your so sick!! There is absolutely a nasty flu going around that seems to last weeks!!! I wonder if your employers know this- no doubt it sounds like they don't care. I wanted to reassure you about the note thing however it sounds like these people are dicks and if they have officially demanded a doctors note then they are probably expecting one. I guess it could depend on your employers but if they are wanting proof I think that is serious. However I wonder can you tell them you can't afford insurance due to not making enough? They must know they don't pay well!!? But again it doesn't matter if they don't care. Reading this it sounds like I'm going to give you worse anxiety about this and I sooo don't want to do that but I just thought I should give you my opinion. Also can you go to one of those low cost/free/sliding scale doctors offices and get a note? I've been to them often and the visit is usually extreamly affordable. About $25-$40. Plus if you don't have the money right then the WILL see you and allow you to pay later- even allow you to make time payments!! (Yes on so little a fee). This would be my advise. I sincerely hope this helps!! Always here, casstar :)
