If your struggling with whatever - and you don't really have a walking plan - then I welcome anyone to come and walk with me in this here thread. We don't have to walk at the same time or anything like that. Just tell us how you went, how far, what time, how you felt, how your progressing and so on. I'm looking for online walking partners that wont mind sharing their walks.

You know me, can't resist getting involved in a Ponder thread.

It's been about 6 months since I did any kind of proper walking. I'm not lazy, I just used to bike everywhere! I went 7 miles on foot today though, mainly because I needed to get to a specialist store and didn't see the point in paying for the bus. Oh, and the bike's broken.

Good exercise. Thankfully the weather was nice. I'll let you know if I fancy doing some more tomorrow. ;)

I did not walk very far this morning but I did go which in itself was therapeutic enough. I know of no reason that could stop me from walking but myself. Once I realise that, it makes me want to go all the more.

My internet is acting up yet again, so I can't really get into the links just yet.

We are such a soft bunch these days - how do you think people kept warm in the old days? Sitting indoors with central heating only serves to make you suffer when it gets real hot. Fattens you up and then makes it hard to sweat in summer when you need to cool. The epidemic with mental illness in prosperous countries and bla bla bla ............. More Kids today are becoming near sighted as many lack sun exposure (problematic in east Asian countries but soon spreading as people hide from the weather more and more) Too cold Too hot! - rar rar rarrrrr ....

Seriously - I don't need to go on with just how soft we have become. I am sure many of you know. How it has impacted us ... well that sucks too. All in the name of making life easier.

I can go two ways with this - I can either get on my wagon and start moving again ... or I can get real depressive and start writing long and drawn out sad topics full of pain. I'm real good at that.

That fucking smoking I have been chocking on in that men's group has made me real sick of late. Thankfully they will be getting a visit from someone that matters, but the damage is already done. People don't care about the health of others so why should they give two fucks about their own?

I remember long and hard what it took for me to give up chocking myself to death - as well as others I might add. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

The good thing about Walking is that there is NO REASON NOT TO DO IT ... it brings instant results! You don't have to wait for 30 days to break a habit or 4 days to rid yourself nicotine and so on.

Great for helping food digest - getting air into your lungs - get your blood moving - your brain in sync - clears your eyes - helps you spit - even S-H-I-T!!! --- You don't need to do it to loose weight or some other overrated goal setting chopping at the bit approach (like I often do!) ---- It's great for breathing and finding space in times when you would rather suffocate and be done with life itself.

I find going early to avoid people works for me, but at others times the walk is beneficial it helps me wave and be nice when I'm really not. The power of walking is pretty strong that you only need to take a dozen steps to make huge gains ... the hardest part it getting going ... again ... there is no reason on this earth that could stop a human from walking ... we are made for walking ...

The only things that stops us from walking is ourselves. Of course if you have no legs you could reason this or that, however I've seen too many people walking with their arms to consider that an excuse.

_________________________

Its damn hot and sultry here ... but fuck it ... I know I need to walk because I know the above is so so true. I know I said I would not go on about food - but I don't mind saying that when I start walking my body usually just chooses food that does not clog me up like so. Typically the first benefit that comes from taking that first step is a sense of doing something right! It's typically a good feeling no matter how negative one may feel. Healing is the key to focus on ...

Just as with giving up the smokes ... finding out a little on how the process works, does indeed speed up the benefits ... but its not as crucial as I found that with the ciggys ... as walking is so so much easier to tackle ...

I could go on and on about it ... sorry for swearing and carrying on like a tool - I've been having a hard time of it lately ... but yet another reason to revert to walking.

If you want help other than hitting away at the keys ------------------- then take a few steps and then let us know how it feels.

bla bla bla - put on my shoes and goes again ...

Peace Out ....................

Thanks Gypsy. I hope it helps you. I did not walk to far this morning, but will also be out and about today as well. From what I have heard a good question is to ask oneself, "how far do I normally walk/take steps?" The benefit is to add some steps to that in order to improve whatever condition one is currently in.

Your right though - better than nothing.

If been draining my batteries of late, so am using the morning walks to recharge be more finding space as opposed to exercising. Here is a pick that sets the mood pretty good. I had to endure some mosquitoes but for the most part ... it was good to get up instead of lay in bed. I'm also thankful for having that picture to share:

I went for my regular walk with my husky brother ( Siberian husky, not husky man) today. I really enjoy that time out of the house. No better way to start the day than a cup of coffee and that walk.

It's always treat when taking the more scenic route. Though on different levels, we are intrigued by the environment. Through that, we are able to bond.

It's a great escape, and learning experience.

Mornings are beautiful. I could live to be a thousand and still wouldn't tire of them.

I don't get to see too many, I usually work late on stuff I've left undone throughout the day. If I had a choice though, I'd definitely pick that kind of routine. Sounds awesome.

Well lol don't get me wrong.

I work late so my sleep schedule usually means I'm at least awake until 3-4AM.

So, by start the day I mean 12-1PM.

I hear you though. I love catching the sunrise, or feeling how crisp everything is in the morning. I find night can be just as inviting though. I love the stars.

Love that picture Dave I have to admit that i prefer to get out in the early mornings as well, i find there are far less people about which is a bonus and you can go places that you really shouldn't with less chance of getting caught.

I have managed to grab a few days holiday! I am hoping to get some good long walks in and see what stuff I can get with my camera. Just thinking back to are chat Dave the other day, I hope you managed to get that smoking problem sorted it's no good you getting a good fix of clean air and then having it ruined.

Nice path Cully! Nicely lit - one of the best times of the day. Yea man - I did what I had to do to push the complaint through and also yet one of many other service users no longer attending that group because of the smoke issue. I got an email back from a senior health representative that visited the establishment. Lets just say that whilst they claim to of been in the process of adjusting the smoking rules, some new ones have also now been place "affective immediately" Unfortunately my efforts to push it through and the resistance I have encountered, make the group an uncomfortable one to further embark on. I've also kind of lost interest in teaching computers as well. Will ride with that one a little more and see how it goes. None of the smokers attended last group ... just one non smoker. That's the dynamic for you. People are pretty much like sheep - I think I will hold out until I can find another complex where the air is less toxic. The only place these attendees congregate is under a cloud of smoke. With basically all of admin being smokers and the rest toking on electronic buzz - (filling their lungs with flavored vapor) - I think keeping my exposure to that place as less as possible will be in my best interest at any rate.

Moving on - and indeed, I do need to pick up the pace albeit for finding space. Have not yet found my feet.

BRING ON WINTER !!! You can always rug up - but in the hot sultry heat up here ... SIGH ... I need to get my shit together and start sweating again. Ironic that under the Aussie Sun South East QLD ... that I am not sweating. That's a bad sign I've let myself go again. Up and Down - The nature of imbalance.

I'll have to let my gut debloat before I head off on a walk ...

Was nice to see you pop in Cully - as too yourself Dahila. How's about settling for a cool 17C ;)
Wishing all others well too.

I think about moving to Qld sometimes because I really feel the cold now with diabetes. I'm like one of those old people who moves from Vic to Qld because they can't handle the cold lol. Somewhere like Airlie Beach would be nice but yeah it does get really hot up there.

I'd ride a bike if I had the chain to put on it Dahila. Please DO relay your bicycle outings if not too much trouble. I think it just as beneficial when it comes to moving the body and all.

Hi Gypsylee - how does the cold affect your diabetes if you don't mind me asking. I thought I too was escaping the cold by moving up here, however I soon discovered that humidity is not as good as it is in the sauna. The sticky heat takes quite a bit of getting used to. So much so I miss very much the cold now. Is always the way though, just when you have left orbit - you begin to think it was a mistake to leave at all, or when you finally acquire something, you thought would make things right, you then realize just how much you did not need to get anything at all.

On that note - it's actually hotter in the house than it is outside -

Off for a walk ;)

Diabetes affects your circulation and you just seem to feel hot and cold more. I probably will never move to Qld though because I really do like Melbourne. I went to the Whitsundays a few years ago and when I got off the plane in Mackay I found it hard to breathe! And that was only in October.

I managed a bit of a walk :)

I do walking sometimes but I prefer cycling. I do a 10 mile circuit that takes between 50 mins to 1 hour depending on the wind. 26mph winds today so I'm not sure if I'll be going today....yet I'm kinda tempted to try it.

Either way, exercise is a wonderful way to combat anxiety and depression.

Evening Guys I am getting loads of walking in, It's been windy here as well Ed but remembering how exposed it is in Haddenham it must be pretty rough there when the wind gets up.
I only managed to get to 11am on the first day of my holiday and my boss was ringing me up! and people wonder why I don't want wish to carry a mobile phone. You can never be at really at peace with one of those in your pocket, so that bloody thing is staying switched up for the rest of my time off. I was nicely chilled out and as soon as spoke to him it pretty much messed that up. I still have a week to go so there is plenty more chance to lose myself on a quiet footpath.

Way to go JastaGal! I’m not too worried about direction or even time for the matter. I know I said I like to go early in the mornings or evening, but when I get down that can easily become an excuse not to go, so sometimes I actually will myself to go at whenever as that can help me overcome the damn procrastination (excuses) of it all. So just getting in a walk, no matter when, how long, of what direction is a big plus for me. Yet to break the wall this end … but this thread is certainly helping.

I think If I may be so bold as to assume, from what you have been saying Chauntecler, with respect to walking I feel I am on the same page as you. : )

Love the photo Cully. Detail is amazing however I am left wondering if that is a bit of chipped paint or a moth of some kind, perched on the post reading the sign? Like “I wonder if this means me?” For a guy like me, that is a hilarious sign – especially with such a background. Soon they will have ATMs attached like coin slots for public access but with a cost.

Srry man – I’m in too deep … (I rarely take the Public route - better photos on the other end / more to see kind of thing :) )but I get that feeling with yourself when you snap these kinds of shots. The walking surely helps you zone in as you scourer the landscape for such shots. Is at least how I remember. Quite meditative in that respect doing what one loves. Thanks for sharing. Look forward to seeing your next one. I have save this one to my desktop … will use as a sign post image if you don’t mind.

Thanks Cully. The good news is that things are seemingly heading into a cooler period. PHEW - but not holding my breath just yet - In fact, I am getting ready to start panting some more. The cooler weather is beckoning me now to take control of my body once more. SIGH ... I really need to get a hold of such. My skin has been burning and itching with eczema. I can't believe how clean my system got before I did my back in. I kind of just gave up since then.

Remember it was coming off the antiphsycotics that really spurred me on. I started with eating better first up and walking. I'm going back to my lemon drinks and hydrating with less food. Bad liver and the build up of toxins really plaguing my skin. My body awareness has nothing to do with weigh loss yet again ... but more to tackle the pain my skin is going through. I gave up drinking because I get sick real quick on that now ... but now, I know I have been eating way too much crap ... trouble is ... its taking less crap to make an impact.

That's my bla bla in this thread for tonight....................

Had a tiny walk today --- I really do have to push into the next level.

Take care all.

Peace.

Loving that shot your beach always looks so inviting! anyone coming in for a dip!

Hey dude - Good to see you man. I enjoyed our chat earlier, but only srry I had to go so quick. By the way man - that beach is yours as well. :)

There was a part of your response that sounded really into the moment - "I always think you ever know what you are going to find around the next corner. I love to explore new foot paths and places and have a good nose around" You reminded me of me. I have indeed been taking it slow Cully. I am on day two of eating healthy again, which is probably more important at this stage for me.

I often think your ability to observe is what adds to the success of each and everyone of your photos. Incredibly so. I may not comment on each one or as much as I would like, but know I am always taken back with every notified upload I see.

The wording on the windmills rudder was perplexing for me - and I am dyslexic at that. It did remind me of when I was outback and repairs were usually made with grease. The composition really stuck me as soon as the page loaded. With respect to Gimp, I thought to myself that you may be using various techniques. I like very much the effects and subtlety you add to each one. The lighting is quite remarkable with such night time shots. I am often drawn to a sense of solace they often bring. The cross and shadow is outstanding.

Thanks for checking in Cully - much appreciated.

Absolutely beautiful here today. The perfect weather, as far as I'm concerned; it's not too hot, but is still warm and sunny. It was a pleasure to do some walking.

I get my new fixed up bike on Thursday, so I'm probably gonna go back to being a cycle junky again. It was good to get out and slow the pace down though. I don't think I'll go back to cycling all the time. I'll still take on the shorter walks.

It's so nice here in fact, I think I'm gonna finish up this work then go back out. Seems almost criminal to stay inside when it's so nice.

On to the fasting: That's been something that's interested me for a while. I tried it a few years ago, but don't think I went into it properly. I'm looking to make improvements to my own diet, so any feedback you give will be very interesting to me.

Guess I'll check back in later when my legs are worn out! :)

Later guys – KEEP WALKING ; )

Thanks! A short walk even really does improve mood.

Your welcome JustaGal. I am still only doing short walks, but long enough to keep my interested and my brain in sync.

You sound like your in a good place Jesse. Really brightened me up reading you post actually. TY. I hope your bike glides like no tomorrow when your next on it.

The fasting I am working towards is called the 5:2 Diet - However it's not a diet at all. You fast twice a week for 36 hours each time. It's quite an ask for newbies. I started with a 24 hours fast by not having my evening meal. just afternoon snack or bits and pieces up till 5pm with no dinner. then I resume the next nigh by having dinner before bed. You can actually eat up to 600 cal during the fast which kind of helps. There is an art to is with hydration and also preparing with what you eat before entertaining into a fast.

I will go into more detail later ... bit behind time. Thank you very much for you message the other day. FB inbox and all that. Was nice to see a response. :)

I have been eating healthy now for close to a week and at this very moment have two pots of veggie soup on the stove and containers waiting to be later stacked in the freezer. I fee a little more energized, but I am being careful how I spend that now.

To cap off - My effort to return to walking and now eat healthy gave me the inspiration to start taking photos again. I even made up a FB Page which whilst only not even a day old is getting some good attention. I take photos from my walks and share them with other like minded people.

You don't have to like it or anything - I just want to share it is all so you can see how I am progressing. (it's in the about tab) - I am sick of the negative communities, so this was my response to one of the pages my wife frequents. Nature is good at helping us draw the best our of ourselves. FB needs more of that. :)

I feel like I have a purpose now.

I went out, for real, for the first time in a number of years. Spent 5 hours at the local lake, walked around a bunch and got some sun. Did a little fishing with my dad and brother. Felt amazing to get out like that.

The view of the mountains is better in town, but not bad out there.

Now that's quality space. Thanks for the sharing there.

I have been procrastinating so will make an effort to get back on the wagon. The short bursts I did were really good.

Hoping you guys are doing well. I am still pushing through with the walking.

A couple of phone pics and one with my little compact. Early mornings are working out to be quite peaceful as the weather now begins to cool.

Some nice clouds about this morning. Overlooking Fixter Park with the sun rising above it. Mostly were the locals fish when not using a boat:

Raining today. Tempted to take the hammock out later, but might settle for a raincoat instead.

Early Morning Walk - Left in the Dark, was quite foggy. Temps was fresh but not so cold. Picture was taken just just behind the tree line that leads to the beach.
