Hi all,

I discovered this forum while searching endlessly for symptoms of anxiety.

I started having (panic attacks?) in January, when I was around crowds and enclosed, watching sporting events, or even on the underground in London. I would suddenly feel dizzy and sick, with my heart racing and feeling like I was going to pass out. Time would seem to speed up and go rapidly while I was suffering.

I was then diagnosed with labrynthitis and just thought it was a side effect of that, which worsened with alcohol.

I was struggling at work in the last few weeks and seemed to have these attacks quite regularly, do I decided to go to the doctors 10 days ago to see what was wrong with me, and he said it was Anxiety, but I suffered with it for the whole day, constant.

He gave me propranolol, and 2 days later I went abroad for two nights without my parents, and just my friends, and during this spell I felt as if I got a lot worse, and I couldn't even leave the hotel, til it was time to fly home. The flight was a nightmare and I really thought I was going to pass out.

I was relieved to get home only to hear more bad news which sent me into another attack.

I had to call the emergency doctors for an appointment the next morning where she gave me anti depressants (sertraline) and sleeping tablets (zopiclone). She checked my blood pressure, heart, thyroid and still blamed the anxiety. 5 days on and I still feel awful the whole day, I have been in my house for 4 days non stop and I'm worried about my thyroid, as my family have had it in the past.

My symptoms are;

Weight Loss - Lack Of Appetite
Cold Hands and Feet - usually after taking the propranolol
Tiredness
Lightheaded ness
Feelingless - I don't feel happy or sad, just nothing
Time Flies
Feel Sick
Hard to Concentrate
Don't enjoy activities I used to
Nervous around crowds
Struggle staying still

And during attacks I feel like I can't breathe due to my throat closing up, light headed and dizzy, cold and then hit, and I feel as though I have to walk around to calm down.

Do you guys think it is GAD or something more? I've felt worse since the tablets too which isn't helping.

Thanks!!

Hi there Chris and welcome :)

It does sound like anxiety to me.

Sertraline tends to make anxiety worse for a while at first. I've never even heard of Zopiclone though.

Feel free to post in the General Discussion section (that's where you're most likely to get advice).

Cheers,
Gypsy x

Hi Gypsy,

Thanks for the reply

Zopiclone is a sleeping tablet that they have given me to help at nights.

I have spoken to doctor and they say I am experiencing side effects of the Sertraline, which are making me worse before I get better. I am still feeling dizzy constant and lightheaded, in fact it's feeling worse than when I was first having panic attacks.

All I can think about is Thyroid and Blood Pressure etc even though they have told me it isn't that.

Why are you so worried about your Thyroid and Blood Pressure?

Yeah all the SSRIs tend to make you worse before you feel better so stick with it.

If I'm honest I'm not too sure.

I just search through Google too often trying to diagnose myself with different things I think. The doctor ruled both out but these side effects are just scary.

Ha! Dr Google is the worst doctor ever :)

I've got an underactive Thyroid and I just take hormone pills for it. If they tested yours and your BP and they're normal then stop Googling!
