Hey Everyone
I'm new here, a 27 year old lady from South Africa diagnosed with GAD. I'm so glad I found this place because I've been looking to talk to people that understand what it's like to live with anxiety. I used to be on SSRI's for depression and my anxiety, but I really hated being on them, so I'm not on anything now. There are good days and bad days, and I'm just looking forward to being able to chat to some of you awesome people.

Hello from the good ol USA. Home of a bad president and a carjacking just around every corner
Did the SSRI help you with the anxiety issues. If so, what's the harm staying on them?
Lots of people want to get off the meds but sometimes I have to wonder why people do if they just struggle again without them.

I wouldn't say the SSRI helped me with the anxiety as much as the depression that came from the anxiety. I still worried and was still anxious every single day. They also just made me very cold and apathetic to things going on around me. So for me it's a case of, feel everything to the extreme or nothing at all.

Hi, I have actually been on a SSRI since I was 18 and I am 32 now. I would do anything to have made a different decision when I was younger to try my best to fight this anxiety without medication. Some people's anxiety is a lot worse and really require medication to level out their serotonin levels. I really feel that therapy has helped me out tremendously. However now I am so afraid to go off of the SSRI. I am so not a person who meditates however someone on this forum in 2013 told me about this YouTube video by the honest guys. So I searched it along with guided anxiety relief techniques. I seriously feel like that has got me through these last two years. I will say this I have recently started having anxiety again and I turned to this forum and the guided relaxation techniques on youtube. I swear they work.
