It seems as if my mind can't relax.
I'm sleeping but my mind is curled up in such a ball that it doesn't simply "let go" and soothe into sleep.
Feels like the observant part of my mind is always alert.
Anybody get this?

When anxious, I sure did.
If you are anxious, by definition, the mind is on guard. Ready to fight or flight
A good ol benzo can send you to zzzzzzz or if you don't have any, chamomile tea can get you sleepy and relax you a bit
Yea benzos sure do work. But there are some risks/downsides of more than occasional use. Talk with your doc about other options, to help you sleep. The problem you are facing is very common, unfortunately.

Absolutely. But once I do go to sleep I often find it *really* hard to wake up. Sometimes I think this is because of how alert my mind is when awake - that when it finally gets a break it doesn't want to start up again :)
