Hello everyone, My name is Maxood and i am suffering from severe anxiety. i have been suffering for many years now and it is constantly increasing and just don't know how to cope with it. I do see psychologist once a week and feel better for a short period of time after seeing her. I am at a point where it is totally ruining my life. If anyone can offer some advice i will be very grateful.
Thank you.
Hi Maxood. Welcome. You may get more responses if you post in the General Forum, and tell us a bit more about yourself and your anxiety.
Have you discussed with your psychologist the fact that you feel a little better after your sessions, but that the anxiety is otherwise not improving? Your psychologist should not be satisfied with that outcome. If therapy is not improving your anxiety in a material way, then you need to try something else -- either a different mode of therapy, or some lifestyle changes in addition to therapy, or potentially medication in addition to therapy. Or maybe a combination of the foregoing. If anxiety is, as you say, "ruining your life" then you need to do something about that. I would first discuss this with your psychologist. If you don't get a satisfactory answer, I would consider making an appointment to see a psychiatrist, to get a second perspective. Don't give in and allow anxiety to take over. You can feel better...

Welcome, Maxood.
I've also had issues with severe anxiety, or at least I used to.
It's good that you see a therapist, Max. But therapy is a slow process that takes time to work.
Psychiatric meds, on the other hand, can work much quicker. And if you get on meds that significantly lowers your anxieties, then you may find that talk therapy, over time, can continue to lower your anxieties even more.
You want to lower your anxieties as soon as you can. So a combination of meds and psychotherapy may be a better option for you than just talk therapy alone.
