Hello all! I need some advice, recently my boss has asked me to go on a work trip. This trip will be about a week long and across the US from where I live. I have never been on a plane nor been away from my son that long. I've been trying my best to stay mentally strong about the situation but I know deep down I'm in a state of panic. I have been debating going to my Dr to ask for a prescription of something to calm my nerves while being away but am worried about the side effects. I don't want any of my coworkers to think I am acting any different than normal. Any help would be appreciated!!

Go for it. It's better than the stress it will cause to your body. Or, tell your boss you're not interested in travel.

I decided that i would not take my xanax with me on a flight to Vegas and i was alright until we flew over the grand canyon and my wife had to open the window shade. I seriously contemplated on how i could get the pilot to land the damn plane in a hurry. As soon as i hit the ground i was on the phone with my doc and had him call me in a script to one of the local pharms. Talk to your doc. better to have them with you and not take then to not have them with you when you really need one. Good luck

Thank you for the replies! I guess my biggest worry is how it will make me feel and act. I have to be around hundreds of people answering questions for the time I am there. Another one of my biggest anxiety fails is caring what others think way too much.

I think this is some VERY good advice. Just having the meds on you in case of an emergency will alleviate some of the anxiety and panic. Anxiety and panic attacks are something that can be dealt with and with time controlled. Meds are just an aide and can be VERY beneficial at times. As a pastor, I not only had the wrong perspective on meds but was also highly criticized when I first had to go on them about 5 years ago at the age of 30 for the first time ever. I took Xanax once for about 2 weeks but it made me feel like I was coming off of Ecstasy pills. Almost every med will react in different ways for different people. I have friends that do GREAT on Xanax, for me, Ativan was A LOT better. I used it for a few months and have been off of it for several months now. They will most probably make you VERY sleepy at first. Xanax can also very likely cuz short term memory lost (make it hard to remember things). I say take them and see how you feel, the heck with what others think of you!!!
Only God can judge us...lol.
