Hi all.

It tells me my message is too short.

So now I'm rambling to fill space.

My basic problem other than an irrational phobia of disembodied voice chat, people, and driving, is that I'm not sure if I'm crazy otherwise or just ethical.

Do you think it's right to risk people's lives just to get an order of fries? I don't.

I must admit I laughed at this :) Do you mean driving to get the fries? So long as you're a competent driver and not intoxicated, you aren't really risking people's lives..

I don't think you're crazy.. Maybe a little neurotic. Anyway, you'll fit right in here ;)

So long as you're a competent driver and not intoxicated, you aren't really risking people's lives...

Reality doesn't work that way.

You simply don't have that degree of control.

For example, little kids don't look both ways.

In a sense driving is much like driving a train, there are limits to what the pilot can do to mitigate physics.

Yes it's a small chance, but it's a chance, and we take it.

I can't. I resent the attempt to force it culture makes.

We live in a society of universal class stratified economic conscription.

Let's say you had a machine in your house that would teleport items to you but use of that machine meant there was a slot machine style chance to crush a random child within the teleportation radius. How callous and lazy would you have to be to use such a device?

Would you ban such a device?

Such a device is a car.

And I can't help but wonder, am I really the problem here?

"Just how unjust does a society have to become before helping people adjust to it with behavior modification and medication is immoral?" ~Bruce Levine

(I think I'll make that my signature here hehe.)

OP - If you stay in and don't go out you might not see an injured person who needs your help.
They could die, just because you stayed at home. Why is that a risk you are prepared to take?

LOL@this thread :)

OP - I thought you were just rambling to increase the word count, hence it seemed an obscure, funny thing to say.

What if instead of getting fries, I drive my child to the emergency department because she's having an asthma attack?

*waves to Ryker* :)

It's true. Hi Gypsy,

We can't cocoon ourselves and others from risk.

By using the risk argument to reinforce the excuse for not driving it just builds a home for the phobia. Not just any home but a stonking great excuse castle with fairy lights.

The more you use that excuse for not driving the more moral and correct the decision feels. Plant another tree to go in front of the castle of excuse while the fear snuggles up warm and cosy inside in front of a roaring fire.
