I'm on my second med of the year (Lexapro was 4 weeks of hell) so my doctor decided to switch me back to something that worked for me 7 years ago Cymbalta. I did a week at 30 mgs and he told me to go up to 60 mg after that which I've been at for six days.
The second or third day on 60 mgs, I started getting joint pain/stiffness in my shoulder and fingers. I went to the doctor today for a meds check (almost had a panic attack but that's another story) and he thinks that I have rheumatoid arthritis or viral arthritis.
I've Google searched (I know terrible idea) and haven't found any occurrences of arthritis caused by Cymbalta. However I'm now freaking out that I might have arthritis (I'm only 30). I did not have joint pain/stiffness prior to taking Cymbalta.
When I looked at the full list of side effects joint and muscle pain is listed as a rare side effect. Is it possible that what I'm experiencing is only a temporary side effect?

No such thing. You should talk about it with your doctor. If you are over forty it is possible that it is arthritis

I'm only 30 but I just talked to my doc today and he thinks its rheumatoid arthritis. I don't understand how a person can develop arthritis that quickly. One day I didn't have joint pain/stiffness and then the next I did??

You had not notice it starts slowly. I had it and it took me years to pinpoint it.

Yesterday was also my first day on Cymbalta.
I had joint pains, where I didn't have joint pains before.
The pain was generally in my neck, back, knees, ankles. Those areas had intensified pain, along with pain in my elbows, wrists, shoulders, and hands too.
I also had a hard time getting to sleep last night. I never have an issue with that.
And my friggin eyes hurt this morning!
They gave me this shit to help stop the joint pains, yet it is increasing the pain and also making it more widespread.
I'm not real sure if this is a short term effect, if its rare, or if I want to continue this either as it also made the pain killers incapable of doing their job too.
This is very weird and you're not the only one SuperChick!
Not sure what to think right now...Going to send my doctor a message, maybe she has an answer.

E-Man.

E-man,
Sorry to hear you are having a hard time with the Cymbalta as well. I didn't develop the joint pain until I went up to the 60 mg, the first day it occurred I couldn't grip my computer mouse without experiencing horrible pain. After 5 days it seems to have disappeared for now, I hope I'm done with it. Hope your doctor has some answers.

I experience constant joint pains daily so taking a medication that increased and intensified them was really hard on me.
You say that those pains passed after a few days?
I also couldn't get to sleep, and my eyes hurt too.
I couldn't open them in the morning, had to open them with my fingers! WEIRD!!!
Have a good day Super!

E-Man :)

I spoke too soon. Woke up this morning with stiffness/discomfort in my right hand and shoulder. I'm trying to write them off as a result of being under a lot of stress right now. Weather is being weird here as well so I'm wondering if that is having an impact. Stupid side effects!

Since my last post at the beginning of this week I haven't had any joint pain/stiffness. Unfortunately I've had a rebound of my depression and anxiety instead. I've had panic attacks two days in a row now. I'm trying to be patient since it can take up to 6-8 weeks to see the full impact of the meds.
