“Major” depression (also known as “clinical” depression) has several symptoms that directly affect a person’s livelihood, such as a defeated attitude and no desire to participate in activities they once found fun and fulfilling.

“Manic” depression (also referred to as “bipolar”) is a very complex mental disorder that can have a person feeling totally lost and depressed, and other times feeling very happy and content.
