Hi all. I was prescribed buspirone on Wednesday. Last night I got depressed and urges to hurt myself. I am better now but still messed up and I cannot relax. Anyone experience anything similar or have advice? I was talking with a nurse on the phone off and on all day for some kind of monitoring which was nice.

Hey I saw your post in the General Discussion so came here to check out the med situation.
Buspirone is one med I haven't been on. But I do know that a lot of anti-deps make you feel worse when you start. The insomnia sounds pretty normal considering you just started a new medication.
Hang in there - it's good you talked to the nurse. You'll be okay, just try and take it easy :)

Hey again gypsy and thanks for the post. The med is supposed to be for stress and i cannot ever again be on a med that can even have the posibility of that reaction (thoughts/impulses to hurt myself). I forgot to mention on the first post that when this all started Fri night I tried reaching someone at the doc office but got no one and even 911 rang without an answer. My son and I got out of the house and away from implements of destruction to go for a walk so if the police or paramedics showed up I do not know. Well, I had the same luck getting a hold of my doc Sat morning and I got so frustrated I called a business called RNs on Call. It was this super nice single mom who helped me and tried to get me in a urgent care. That is another story but the nurse called back three times to check on me. That is more care and concrrn than I got from my parents so yeah I am very grateful for her! Thanks for your time and concern too!!!

You're welcome.
That's awful you called 911 and got no answer. I think feeling alone is perhaps the single worst thing for anxiety.

It sounds like you may be prone to depression, in which case an antidepressant would be called for. Buspirone is strictly for anxiety and does not help depression. However, considering your strong negative reaction to the medication, you would need to get some doctor's advice.

My doctor tried me on buspar as a first line defense years ago but it actually made my anxiety worse.
It strictly is to be used for people without panic and only for general anxiety patients.
I believe it clearly states that where ever you look too.
I had the worst panic attacks while on it and it felt like there was a clamp on my head or like I was wearing a helmet that was too tight.
It works for some, but doesn't work for others.
Yes, some additional doctors advice would be required and move on to something else considering your effects.
Make the best of this day friend!
