View Full Version : Constant anxiety/stress symptoms

Hi everyone!

I'm 27 years old and for the last twelve years i have anxiety symptoms, like palm-sweat, muscle-tension, restless and mainly breath shortness.

When i was a child, i had hard and stressful times and experiences, that cause me anxieties. At least in the last years i feel (most of the time) psychologically very good and i havn't bad thoughts or worries, but my body behave like i am in the middle of constant panic-attack.

All the descriptions i have read about the various anxieties, are about worries, thoghts and phobias, but as i said i don't feel any psychological problem. Before years i tried a few medications (mostly SSRI) but it did not improve much.

This problem impacts a lot on my life and i would be very grateful for any help or advice.

The problems of anxiety are due largely to hormonal or chemical abnormalities in the nervous system. This means that there doesn't have to be an external cause for your symptoms, and you shouldn't be trying to find a psychological basis for your feelings. In short, you can have anxiety without any serious childhood trauma or life experiences. Instead, if you are generally a happy and content person (this is great), all you need to do is recognize the signs of stress and work to prevent/counteract them.

I feel like I spent a lot of time looking for a cause when I first started getting anxiety attacks, but eventually I gave up and realized that I was probably never going to find one. While frustrating, it's also kind of liberating as it frees you up to work on the effects, rather than searching for some single problem that can be "fixed".

This is something I strongly agree with and it plays with the concept of fear as I just viewed a video on last night. It suggests that usually we fear things that simply do not exist , based on the fact that if it did happen we would no longer fear it. For example a man hunting a lion in Africa has his gun jam on him. The lion subdued the man and dragged him towards its area of cubs. The man while afraid at first quickly came to terms with what is happening and the fear subsided. Likewise myself, I have come to realize that my anxiety shoots out the door when I find myself questioning "how did this happen" or I get the urge to google stuff for answers. I've since cut that out and my anxiety is at a much better level.

Thank you very much for your replies.

When i go to psychologists they talk with me about my bad thoughts and worries, caused by environmental and sociological. When i go to psychiatrists they are also talk about the bad thoughts caused by brain problem. But i think that nobody is right and that truth is that i get panic-attack while my friend that worry more, stay relaxed. I wonder why wikipedia and all the other sites that talks about anxieties, always explain that the root of the problem is psychological and abnormal thoughts and worries.

Yeah I'm quite skeptical about anxiety being caused by anything in the environment really. Certainly there are things that make it worse, but I still feel like the whole thing starts and ends in the brain and isn't caused by anything I've experienced or things I'm doing wrong. I'm a pretty relaxed person, and I don't worry about much of anything, but I still have the same symptoms as everyone else on here it seems.

I believe that a good majority of my anxiety comes from my lack of self confidence. I've always struggled with it and to get by, I've needed to implement a false state of confidence so I don't seem awkward in social situations. Having to "put it on" so often makes you over think like crazy, which I think has been a contributing fact to where I am today.

Having natural confidence means you don't need to overthink as much, which for me would be such a huge relief. I know how to get it but it'll take a while to obtain. Everything is psychological at the end of the day in so much that it's causing you anxieties for such a long time. I'd like to think it's perhaps a nutritional deficiency but given the time you've been experiencing this, it's highly doubtful. There are many aspects of our thought processes we're unaware of until they're tapped into by a specialist, so that's why I'd suggest going to a therapist or a psychologist just to see if they can shed some light on the situation. If they don't help? at least you can strike that off your list of possibilities.

I think environments are a huge influencing aspect when dealing with anxiety. You interpret the world around you by analyzing the environment you're in. I will feel more depressed in certain environments than I will in others. In fact, a large part of how I am right now, is that I was in a confined environment for quite some time, which built up anxiety feelings in me when I then had to enter into a new environment. They're intrinsically connected and shouldn't be ignored at all. The practice of "Feng Shui" is to create environments that infuse peace and calm into your life. The opposite of that would be anxiety hell!
