View Full Version : Reason of Joining
Hello all,
I am new to this site, and have just joined to get some tips on how to deal with my excessive anxiety. I have been suffering with this my whole life and it has not gotten any better. It has, in fact, become worse. I get extreme nausea, crying spells, and persistent worry that will not let me sleep. I know my triggers and I am aware they are completely ridiculous but rationale doesn't seem to exist when my anxiety kicks in. I hope joining this forum will be my first step to living a happy life.

Hi Pjot and welcome to the forum,
First let me tell you, there is no ridiculous reason for anxiety, just different ones. One person is scared of height, the other one of supermarkets and public places (which is mine). I to had severe anxiety and only recently started to get better. It took me a long time before I found what I needed to do to get better, because my doctor didn't give me the right information. By being here I am very sure that you made your first step to recovery.
To help you out I'll put a quick summary of my treatment plan:
1. Breathing Exercises
2. Relaxation Exercises
3. Muscle tension exercises
4. Medication
5. Physical Exercises
6. Therapy for self-esteem and self-image issues
7. Exposure therapy (only when comfortable and with someone supervising you until you can handle it by yourself)
8. Filling in anxiety sheets after every attack (I can post one of these if you are wondering what they look like)
9. Identifying my symptoms on the anxiety scale 0-10 (I can also post this if necessary). Generally I try to stop my anxiety when it hits level 2-4, but if I do go over that and hit a lvl 7-10 I also have techniques to cope.
As with any anxiety disorder, it all takes a lot of practice. But the benefits will become clear to you quite quickly. The reason for the need to practice is when your having an anxiety attack all logic goes out the window. With practice you have more chance remembering and implementing it. It did the trick for me :)
Thank you so much for the reply I really appreciate the advice and the bright outlook! I will research further into your techniques as well as look into the anxiety sheets!
