I have been under an extreme amount of stress today. A few times I thought I saw something, but it wasn't really there. Is this normal? Has anyone else experience this? Will it go away, or is it something I will now experience forever? I hope it isn't anything serious.

Stress can cause some pretty odd experiences, the mind is pretty powerful, it's not uncommon to have episodes where shapes/shadows/corner of the eye objects are interpreted abnormally.

If you are consciously aware that these experiences aren't real then this is not mental illness.

An extreme lack of sleep and stress has caused me to see shadows or flashes out of the corner of my eye on more than one occasion.

John, ever hear or smell things that weren't here from extreme stress? Or ever hear of anyone hearing or smelling things that weren't there?

Well....... i am not sure if it was from anxiety or not but a couple of years ago i had some major sinus surgery and AFTER the surgery they told me it could take up to two years to heal. Fast forward to a couple of month ago ( almost two years after the surgery ) i started to smell things that just absolutely would not go away. It was so dang annoying it was driving me insane.
