This is my first post...so hello all! I have anxiety and am currently on Buspar and Zoloft. The Buspar is really prescribed for two reasons because I also have IBS and Buspar along with Bentyl and an enzyme supplement help control my IBS symptoms as well. However, my question is about the Buspar specifically. I am currently prescribed 15mg twice a day, but I notice after a dose that I feel really good for awhile, but then later on I start feeling bad again (severely fatigued, depressed, racing negative, worrisome thoughts, etc.) I was thinking instead of taking 15mg twice a day, I would break it up and take 10mg three times a day. Anyone else on Buspar and, if so, do you take it twice or three times daily? I know that it is one of those meds that you have to wait awhile for it to work because it has to build up in your system, but unlike my Zoloft, I definitely feel a spike when I take Buspar and it definitely feels like it wears off after awhile. I would like to have a steady amount in my system and feel okay all the time rather than doing well in the morning and at night, but feeling bad throughout the middle of the day. I'm wondering if taking it three times a day would remedy the situation, or if I should talk to my doctor about a dosage increase. However, it has already been increased twice because I started at 5mg twice daily, then moved up to 10mg twice daily and am now on 15mg daily. Even with the dosage increases I still feel like I have a low period where I don't feel well during the middle portion of the day between doses.

I have recently been taking Buspar and I have noticed it too. One of my doctors said it has a short half-life so it wears off.
I think you should definitely try increasing to 3 times per day. I am considering it, once I find the proper dosage. Right now I'm on 25 mg/day but plan to increase to 30 mg per day. But it does peak and then wears off so a lot of people take it 3 times per day. Then all you need to do is find the correct dosage for yourself and the correct dosage of the Zoloft. Not sure why your Zoloft is not keeping you covered during the times the Buspar is low. Is your dose sufficient?

I may try this then because I definitely notice it not working after awhile. To be honest, I am wondering whether my Zoloft has stopped working as SSRIs sometimes do. I am on 25mg, which is the lowest dose and lower than the dose most people are on. From what I have gathered, most people take at least 50mg. I've considered asking to have my Zoloft dosage increased, but it's pretty rough adjusting to a higher dosage so I thought I would try the Buspar thing first and see if that helps.

This is my third day taking 10mg three times a day instead of 15mg twice a day of Buspar, and I am feeling a lot better. What a relief. I hope this keeps up because it is so nice to be feeling back to normal again.

If I need to, I will try that as well. The Buspar does indeed, wear off, so you need to take it on a regular basis. I am so glad to read that it is helping you! I hope it continues to do well for you. Right now I'm okay with twice a day, but some things are getting stressful so I may need to try it. Good luck!
