I've was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder 11 years ago, and have been on Fluoxetine (Prozac) ever since. However just as the doctor has once warned me, it slowly quit working for me a couple years ago. I am now on Celexa, as of 6 days ago. I understand that different medications work for different people, & that you must go through trial and error before you find the right one for you. I'm just wondering if any of you have tried this medicine, & what it was like for you. Also, any side effects that you would be willing to share. I'm just getting into the "side effect zone", & waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel! Please share any experience you've had with this. Thank you :)

Hi, I too have Generalised Anxiety Disorder which I was diagnosed with 9 years ago. I have only ever been prescribed Citalopram by my GP and have been on it 4 times. The last time being 2 1/2 years ago and unfortunately started the medication again 4 days ago. I was prescribed 40mg daily but on the first day the side effects were so bad that I decided to just take 20mg daily until my body gets used to it then if necessary I will increase the dose to the 40mg prescribed. The side effects are awful. I am nauseous, have no appetite, feel dizzy, suffer panic attacks when outside and my anxiety is slightly hightened. I know from experience that this will pass and I will, in a few weeks at most, start to feel better and more normal. I know people have stopped taking Citalopram because of the side effects but they do not last. I find that if I eat regularly, although I don't want to, then my dizziness and nausea subsides. I hope you start to feel better soon.

Celexa didn't do anything for me at all. :( Hopefully you have better luck than what I did!

Lexapro is similar to Celexa, without all the side effects. It's good and works well for me.

It can be a little rocky to start with, I think once or twice I woke up in the night feeling kinda weird. If that happens to you at any time, it's not too big a deal. Re-shifting of chemicals is all, and it does pass.
Mildly effective for me. No real sexual side effects, no tiredness, no weight gain. Everyone's different though. For me it was easy to take. It's one of the better tolerated meds out there.
Good luck :)
