I am sure many of you know that caffeine is a no no for anyone who is susceptible to panic and anxiety.
If I have a caffeine coffee I am feeling anxious and shaky within an hour ... it clears after another hour or so.
Stay away from anything containing caffeine

Well some people call caffeine a "drug". I do drink coffee in the morning but try not to have any more after that.

Coffeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I would never quit on it. I am suffering with GAD my whole long life, and coffee never was cause of my panic attack. Other things yes. It will get you agitated for a while, raise your blood pressure slightly and deliver a lot of antioxidant to the body. The cause of panic and anxiety is not COFFEINE
Please stop scaring people, and deny them a bit of pleasure as the morning coffee is. You have wrong idea about it, and welcome to the forum

I know personally that it's not good for my reflux - but I know it helps me in other areas. I'm not sure if this is right, but it feels as if it can be liken to taking ritalin for ADHD - it seems to help me and although finding the right doses can be hard as in using the right strength and how many I have can sometimes lead me to over ding it - and end up too hyper ... there can be many benefits if I balance it as too my own health and well being. The lining inside my mouth atm is quite sore and I don't think coffee is going to be good for that, however now having type so long a paragraph on it now, it would seem I have no choice and must now go make up a dose of mild Coffee.
Certainly helps me on my longer posts.
Can be short lived with ongoing side effects, moreover like something that backfires.
I've done better with coffee since using a milder variety to the usually higher concentrates in which I take it. When making a French press cuppa - It seems too strong for me. Again - I've been using double espresso strength.
Yep ... definitely must go make one now.
TY ;)

Hehehe, yeah I got the cuppa too, my is mild so I can have a few cups a day. Dave:)
Considering that we do not have a lot of pleasure in life, being always overshade by anxiety and craziness, cup of mild coffee is just what we need...
French expresso .......forget it, it would make me crazy with the heartbeat, but Coffee Americana is so weak can by drank by galons.

Caffeine is somewhat of a double edged sword.
Like nicotine, it can act as both a stimulant and sedative.
I personally find that the odd cup (1-2 a day, will trigger the physical symptoms of anxiety, heart palpitations and shaking etc).
But several cups actually has the opposite effect, in that the symptoms go altogether (temporarily).

I am with Ponder on the Ritalin thing. I do not function at all without my morning/evening caffeine. ( I drink way to much ) but I think it keeps me more focused and my thoughts are not all over the place. IDK

Yep John - me to with the evening jolt as well. hehehee Many people say it interferes with their sleep. There must be something wrong with me, as I can enjoy an evening dose and (when not suffering huge amounts of stress) - can still rock myself to sleep. To be fair though, I do utilize sound files with simulated ZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzs :)

WOW the animosity. Did I say anywhere that caffeine is the cause of panics and anxiety? Please show me where?
No I said that some people can be very sensitive to caffeine and it can bring on your anxiety. Research it, it's a fact, I'm not scaring anyone. If you aren't sensitive to it then great for you but some are (including myself so I speak from my own experience, from research and from others' first hand experience).
For some people it's worth trying without caffeine and see if have a different reaction, that's all.
Incidentally, I love coffee too have do have the odd caffeine coffee but mostly I drink De caff as it doesn't make me shaky and anxious :)
sheesh

What does NO NO means to you? BTW decaff is full of chemicals and you lose the benefits of coffee which should be drunk black without milk or even worse cream..
You are new here and please be supportive to others, so you will receive it back :))

I'm hoping we are not all going to fall out over coffee.
Perhaps I could draw attention to the personal interpretation of text (it does not have the tonal interpretation we benefit from in face to face encounters). And often results in folk getting the wrong end of the proverbial stick.
Let's all grab a coffee (decaf or caf...it's personal choice) :)
Then re group?

Yep......a "few" try to dictate to the peasants. It's getting old quick. They even police topics as to not "offend". It's getting pretty pathetic to be honest. You will have to stomach the cursing of God, Jesus anything religious mind you because a few here have issues with it.....so like any good peasant...go back to your hut because such and such is offended. What EVER ! These same few will spew venomous poison your way if you don't buy into their ways of thinking. It has help my anxiety ZERO as it reminds me of the bully kids when I grew up....that just needed a good beat down. This is my feelings and my last response in this forum as it's a club of the few mostly. There are quite a few really nice and informative, non judging people here. If you can find them....listen to them. As for the rest... Pardon my French ....but you had this coming ..... Fuck off and you know who you are.
Feel free to ban me.... Don't care.......I speak my mind just like the others. May all with anxiety and depression issues find healing and peace in whatever way works.......
May God Bless all here.....even the ones who deny his existence
Peace

I agree with natural mystic and Hockey Rules. This is not a place of tolerance nor it is a welcoming place for some. And I am horrified that such awful language is permitted and not taken off the thread on religion.

I love coffee but sometimes it makes me antsy. I avoid it on bad days but when I'm feeling good to begin with the feeling can be very enjoyable.

Thanks Dahila!
I know espresso is supposed to have more caffeine in it too, but mixed with a bunch of milk (like in a latte) and it comes out to less caffeine than a regular cup of coffee. Which is good, I like my lattes :D
Strangely, I find that -- in the mornings when I am feeling anxious -- like a rush of cortisol -- coffee actually makes me feel better. That may be sort of counter-intuitive, but it's the way I react. In part this may be because on those days I tend not to have gotten a good night's sleep the night before, so maybe the coffee wakes me up. Or maybe it is just feeling a little better when I manage to get out of bed (which is not always easy) and start the day. So for me it will be (1) coffee when feeling anxiety, and (2) coffee when not feeling anxiety. But I know that some people will have a different reaction, so your mileage may vary.

everyone reacts different to different drugs and body chemistry may change over time. i have got panic attacks from too much caffeine but if i limit myself to 1 or 2 cups when i wake up im fine. it's actually very beneficial for helping me wake up and clearing the cloudy feeling i get for hours after waking up until i have that cup. then through the day i have more energy and can focus better. i never use energy drinks or those energy shots. stuff is terrible imo makes my anxiety worse and i feel sick to my stomach.

I absolutely love caffeine. I usually drink tea/coffee during the mornings when i'm up early for school or work, but on lazy days when i'm just lounging around I don't drink it as often. I went through a phase of having 2-3 coffees a day which was during my addicted stage, but I pretty well snapped out of that. Diet coke on the other hand.. I drink a tonne. I don't drink a lot of juice though which is why i'm okay with drinking diet coke as often as I do. I do drink sugar-free redbull as well from time to time when i'm at work but it's not a daily thing for me anymore.
For me, caffeine doesn't seem to make me panicky unless I drink a LOT. There has only been one time I was shaking and that was at about 4am after 1L of diet coke and a can of redbull. I know it can have a strong impact on a lot of people which is why you have to test your body and see how much you can tolerate without having a panic attack. People like my aunt can only drink decaf coffee or else she'll start having a really bad episode and it takes her a while to come down.
