Hey all,
About a month ago I had a terrible panic attack out of the blue. Since the attack I have developed obsessive thoughts and had terrible moments of anxiety that I have finally started to treat with 20mg prozac which I started yesterday. I felt fine after taking the pill in the morning but woke up in the middle of the night to a terrible panic attack where my mind was racing and my head felt hot. It really freaked me out and after doing some research I became worried I had serotonin syndrome from the prozac. I was taking adderall for add before I had my intial panic attack and I read that could cause seotonin syndrome as well. But I have been thinking usually when your diagnosed with serotonin syndrome the course of action is to stop the medication right? Because even afters stopping the adderall I was still having terrible anxiety and panic attacks weeks after. I was wondering if because of this I could rule out serotonin syndrome and maybe just experianced a panic attack last night as a side effect while my body adjusts to the medication? Thanks.

You don't have serotonin syndrome. It was a panic attack. Trust me!

Not too uncommon for SSRIs to do that to people, especially in the middle of the night.

I once had a fear that I would had/would get serotonin syndrome (I was on a high dose venlafaxine) at the time). My psychiatric nurse assured me that I would more than likely be in a coma if I had serotonin syndrome.

It sounds like what jessed said you woke up in a panic, It is not unusual to wake from sleep into a state of panic. Even though we are asleep we can still experience anxiety.

At one time I was on 40 mg of Prozac and my doctor said no fear of ss.
