Hi all, not posted for a long while but still having the same old problems.
I have considered after 33 years that I may be Bipolar but I don't know & no one has ever suggested it throughout my life. I suppose I'm just getting more & more desperate for answers as to why I suffer so badly from both deep depression & sever anxiety , yet some times I'm ok for no reason at all . Mostly I am depressed but I have times were I'm hyped up with excess energy & OCD & end up cleaning & scrubbing & clearing out & once I start I can't stop .
I'm weary of living with this shitty illness , it sucks the life out of me & I suffer with feeling suicidal because it gets to much to bare. I've tried loads of diff meds & therapys self help exercise , nothing changes how I feel in my head .
I wish I could find a med that really helped . I also wish there was proper help out there, sadly I've found it appalling .
Any way anyone here know anything about Bipolar & how do you know if you have a form of it ?
Jessy xx

You can try mood stabilizers like lithium, lamotrigine, Valproate. If you try antidepressants without adding a mood stabilizer they may make you manic if you are bipolar. Atypical antipsychotics like zyprexa, risperidal, seroquel, geodon also have mood stabilizing effects.

I know quite a bit about bipolar and there are a few different types or levels so to speak it does sound like bipolar to me but Im not a psychologist and I especially don't know you but the criteria to diagnose someone being bipolar is long bouts of depression with manic phases that cycle hyperactivity racing thoughts cleaning everything in sight more talkative more energy than normal then when that passes it's back to depression.. I was just evaluated by a psychiatrist to screen for bipolar however to truly know u have to be very honest and only a psychiatrist can really diagnose you and I can't stress enough that anxiety can very often mimmick bipolar an a lot of people with anxiety are bipolar it's tricky. I thought for sure I was bipolar because I've suffered with depression for years but I don't get manic so that was ruled out instead she diagnosed me with PTSD. Which idk if I believe that I still wonder if I'm bipolar but u have to trust the professionals they are in fact smarter than us lol at least when it comes to their profession. My advice would be to get evaluated by a psychiatrist in which u can know for sure and then get treated appropriately. Good luck in your journey

Hi Jessy, on the second page of this link I am going to provide there are some links to bipolar and the main thing to remember is that some of the symptoms are common in most people and that they must cause impairment http://anxietyforum.net/forum/showthread.php?27845-Need-some-help-guys/page2
I hope this shines some light on what you are going through, the cleaning excess COULD be caused by built up anxiety being released by a compulsion (ocd). But it sounds like you are struggling with it, if you are going to talk to anybody it needs to be a psychiatrist if possible not a gp.
Oh and My psychiatric nurse has the condition, I spoke to him about the possibility of me going on lithium (it was suggested by the psych) and He said " you are not going on that it is poison that I wouldn't give to a rat"
