I was prescribed buspirone a couple years ago but it didn't work well for me at all. I just started counseling again and she's suggesting I try medication. I don't know what kind yet, but it just makes me nervous.. Nervous it won't work again, nervous about side affects.. Like, I do not want to gain weight with medications. That's a big worry. Any meds you can suggest that worked really well for you that maybe I can talk about to my dr when the time comes?

From what I have read...there are few Meds that dont either mess with your appetite or metabolism in general. I will let others chime in on that one.

Yeah, it's a tough decision if I even wanna try meds again. I would like to try everything else first.

Hi Kat,
I can appreciate your concerns. The honest answer to your question is that what may work for me or hockey rules may not work for you and vice versa. Medication treat's all of us differently, some may help you but not help me. The only way you are going to know is to give it a try. If it causes side effects you can either ride them out with the hope of them going or you can stop the medication (under the instructions of a doctor, don't just stop) and they will go away. You may gain weight, you may lose weight but it is not permanent you can lose/put it back on.
If you are really struggling mentally I would advise giving medication a try.
All the best :)

I've heard Zoloft has a better chance of not causing weight gain, says my psychiatrist. My mom wants to get on meds also but does not want to gain any weight either so she's going to try Zoloft.
A friend of mine is on Zoloft & Ativan & loves them. No weight gain.

Thank you Brookelynnn! Very good advice. I know if they feel it would be best, I would want to try something. Because I want to be better. It's just scary thinking about having to take meds I guess.
