Does anyone have personal experience taking 50,000 IU vitamin D weekly? If so how long did you take it for? Does anyone know if it's safe to take 50,000 I U weekly for over six months? My concern that I'm getting at is vitamin D toxicity..... can you get toxicity if you have taken vitamin D at that amount for that long I am afraid to look online because they always blow stuff out of proportion, please respond if you have personal experience with this I hope everyone has a great day!!

I'm guessing your doctor put you on this, right?

Vitamin D is incredibly safe unless you're a jackass. And I mean you have to be a jackass to overdose on vitamin D.

Most overdoses occur when people insanely high doses over long periods of time.

I take 35,000iu a week, and I have no deficiency. I take 5000iu a day.

It's good for inflammation as well as protection against British weather.

It's D2 that is mostly toxic in large doses. D3 is a safe supplement.

If you're deficienct, or need to take it, your body will be too thankful to receive it to ever worry about toxicity problems.

You're fine with this :)

Mine is d2 as I have been repeatedly told we cannot get prescription vitamin d3 form here in the. U.S. go figure . I just get concerned that maybe I shouldn't still be on it, my doc says ill just pee what I don't need out but I did not think vitamin d worked that way?

Depends on what your blood test says? If you're still deficient, you still need D.

If you aren't, no pont taking it, it'll just overload you.

It doesn't really work that way, you're right, you don't just take high amounts and pee the rest out. It's not vitamin B. D is more of hormone than a vitamin.

You're in Georgia too aren't you. If you get a lot of sunshine, and you got outside quite a lot, you probably should need it.

If you don't mind blood tests, getting your level checked is always good. You'll know what to do for sure then.

I have to watch what I say as I don't like worrying you, but I'm a tad concerned if your doctor thinks Vitamin D is water soluble?

I'm not sure if that's what they were getting at or not

But I know it's hard to say without blood test but if I've taken 50,000 weekly since say november does that sound like too much?

I do think it's too much, yeah. Too much to keep taking, anyway, unless there's a reason to.

Why were you put on it in the first place Bless?

Nah, you're fine. 22 is low. I can see why your doctor put you on them. :)

You probably wanna get it checked again though, firstly to make sure that treatment is working, cos if it isn't, you'll carry on feeling poorly, and secondly so that you can avoid taking too much D. Not really too much of a problem when you're low, but getting too much for too long, can perhaps affect other nutrient levels.

It should be nearer to a normal level now. Doctors always offer follow up blood tests. It's part of the treatment. Yours should be due after nearly 6 months.

You're good Blessy, you're good :)

Usually between 3-6 months.

Anywhere around 50ish is good, but you have some leighway either side.

Blessed check http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/ They have all the info you could possibly want. Plus you don't need to get prescription D. Tons of companies sell it here in the US. Just order it online from iherb.com or Swanson. 22 is super low. at 3000iu's a day which is 21,000iu's a week my level went up 5 points a month. But that is also with lots of sunshine. I live in Florida. You want to be like 60-80 so you've got a ways to go.

September of 2013 it was 22. December I of 2013 it was 44. March of 2014 it was 34 so I'm wondering should I still be only these weekly doses of 50,000 iu?

I had read somewhere that 50,000 IUs was the dose people who have a deficiency are given in the UK. Surely you have been tested by a Doctor who will tell you whether or not to keep taking those doses which are prescribed to you. Instead of asking us, ask your Doctor what level they are trying to get you up to...
