Hello, I have been struggling with social anxiety for a very long time, to the point where it's almost impossible for me to get and keep a job, or focus in school. I'm currently in college to become a health care aide, and we are about to go out on our work experience in about a month, but I feel like I really need to focus on overcoming my anxiety, because it's just gotten out of control. So I'm deciding I do not want to go on my work experience until November so I can be completely dedicated to overcoming my anxiety, but I'm so scared of being rejected, especially by my boyfriend. I really would like to tell my boyfriend about my decision not to go on my work experience to focus on getting better, but I'm so scared he's going to break up with me because of this. I know this is a very vicious cycle, and I'm very scared!

Hi Tibby! I completely agree with Frankie. That was very good advice. Dealing with our anxiety and mental/emotional health and needs is so key and important!! It must come first so the rest of our lives to follow can be a success. You know yourself and your needs best so if you are feeling like you simply cannot continue your schooling just yet than listen to that! And if your boyfriend truly loves you and is understanding of your great anxiety than I can't see him breaking up with you for this! I know it's easy to say but the fact is if he or anyone else broke up with you over something so important to you than they probably aren't worth your time. That sounds harsh but that would be very shallow for them not to care for your needs first and foremost. I commend you on your strength and on doing what so many run from. And welcome you to the forum! It really is a great place with a lot of people who truly care, understand, and have some really good insightful advice! :) sincerely, casstar.

Thank you for your replies! I was having a hard time logging on for a few days, I could figure out how to get the log in button to show up on my screen. Anyway, in reply to Frankie, I actually am in a program where I have my own apartment, but there are professionals in my building who I can talk to almost anytime. Meditation and yoga have both been suggested, as well as writing in a journal 3 things I accomplished each day. I am just beginning to put these things into practise, as I was just hit hard by the realization that I have to decrease my anxiety before I can have a career.
And it's so nice to know there are people out there who care. :)
