My doc just wrote me a script for this, but I'm reluctant to go on it.

I have been dealing with severe insomnia for the last 3 months, where I literally can't ever fall asleep.

Been using Imovane and Ativan to sleep but no consistency.

My doc thinks it's due to major life changes (marriage, buying a house, miscarriage, etc.). So she thought Cipralex (Lexapro) would help with the anxiety.

My concern is that insomnia is one of the drugs side effects!

I've also had problems with sleep. I can fall asleep. But I wake up every single night between 3:30 and 4:30 am with anxiety and cannot fall back to sleep. I have only had one day since the beginning of January where I slept until 8am. It sucks. I feel so tired at work all day and anxious. I took my first pill tonight.

I Was on Cipralex and woke up during the night daily. I was very sleep deprived and the side effects were not worth it to me. Got on Celexa which has worked until now... Waking up again.
Plus I still get some side effects.
Dammit I hate SSRI's.

Can't sleep... Clowns will eat me.

If you don't mind my asking, when you say "it works", what exactly does that mean.

Was your anxiety reduced and that allowed you to sleep normally?

Just curious, as I'm dealing with something now that won't ever allow me to fall asleep on my own (without taking sleepy meds).

Thanks :)

At least you're able to get down. For me, I can't even get to sleep! Been like this for 3 months! It's absolute torture!

I just hate the 4am with anxiety wake up. I end up laying in bed trying to sleep til i have to get up at 7am for work. Lets just say either way being sleep deprived sucks. I was on Celexa for years. Off and on since 2001. It made me feel fine. My anxiety started in 2007 when my then 15 month old daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia. The anxiety eventually went away. But i have had bouts of it every few years. This january it came and still hasnt left. I also started taking Wellbutrin in February. I do feel i am getting better. I was at the doctors yesterday and I told her I must be feeling somewhat better as I dont think i will cry during this appointment. I would bawl my eyes out at every appointment.

Hello :)

I am currently on Cipralex and have been since January 2013. I was initially on Celexa actually, just like yourself and it only made my symptoms worse, either that or didn't do anything good for me. After I went on Cipralex I was able to function "normally" even after just a week or two. It really depends on the person I think as everyone is different. But for me it has worked wonders and without it I would most likely be unemployed and single instead of married and still at my job as Editor-in-Chief!

The most important thing is to consider your doctors recommendations and if you don't feel your doctor listens to YOU or understands YOU - find a new one :).
