Hi all,

Just wondering about this topic. I've always tried to stay away from medication where I can, any kind of it at all, just something I've akways done. I was looking to get advice on where the line should be drawn. I'm only new here and only recently started counselling so I am ready to give that a go first, but at what point do I say I need that bit more help?

Has anyone with maybe similar experience to me, with regard to rarely even taking cold medicines, had bad reactions if/when they took medication to help with anxiety/depression?

Most people with anxiety avoid meds at all costs it seems because they are afraid of the side effects

And most often when they do have "side effects", it's just their anxiety coming out over the fear and they equate it to the meds

Very normal but it's a shame when people have gotten to the point that they cannot do things on their own

The line should be drawn when you get to that point.

Meds can be taken with a combination of other treatments.

They can be a temporary blessing for many because it allows you to regain some focus whilst working with a therapist, CBT, etc...

If you need something longer term, a SSRI can do wonders

Ultimately it is your choice

Just don't avoid something at the expense of your own well being

Nixon has laid out some good advice here, and he knows what works. You're going to have to take the best steps for you. Therapy will work for you, as well as relaxation, exercise, and good company. Also you're not alone. I was one who was very reluctant to take meds, and when I did finally after 15 years of trying on my own, I seen I needed it, like a diabetic needs insulin. Of course after you get back in shape you can make a clear decision as to whether you remain on them or not. Much peace

Thanks for that guys. I'll see how the therapy goes and reassess in the future.

Appreciate it!
