I am 17 yrs old. I had a panic attack when i was 9 yrs old. I was all by myself. Panic attack prevents me from doing things that i love such as going out with my friends or playing sports. Then, slowly my world began to shut down. I am afraid to go out of the house and began to rest on my bed more often. I didnt tell my whole family about it because i was afraid. Afraid that they would think i am crazy or psycho person. I wish that everyone in this world would not go through what i have gone through because it can be scary at times and much more worse, i felt out of control. As the years went by i began to trust my friends more and told them about my panic attack. I'm glad and felt relief that they were able to help me go through with this. However, my panic attack started worsening. I will call my friend at 2 am in the morning while they were sleeping. Then i realised that instead of being glad that my friends can help me i felt guilty because i depend on them too much. I felt burden. I tried to go through these things by myself. I downloaded many apps on panic attack. I searched on youtube about all kind of panic attacks. And here i am today, still having it but i know if i give up i wont be able to find peace. I don't know who can help me now until i found out about this website. I hope you guys can help me. Thank you(:

I'm sorry you are experiencing this at such a young age, but the good thing is you can start working on it early. I would suggest making an appointment with you doctor if you haven't already. They can help find you the right meds to help manage your panic attacks. Also, they can refer you to a therapist who can work on some CBT.

In the meantime, this is a great support group. It's nice to know you aren't alone :) we will all get through this.

Do you know what brought the panic attacks on? Was it a traumatic experience? Does this happen when you are alone or out in a group?

Find an outlet that you can turn to when you feel a panic attack or anxiety flare up..for me, it's either playing guitar or listening to some music. Have you ever tried metal music? I know it's not for everyone, but I find it really helps me release stress. If you're ever curious in what bands you could start with, let me know! You can get through this, we all can!! :)

Indie is good for calming too (Try the band Ducktails, specifically the album The Flower Lane. Look up the song "Letter of Intent"), but when I'm really worked up and freaking out, metal is what always seems to calm me. Any early Metallica or Megadeth (from the 80s or early 90s), Anthrax (Upbeat "Party" Metal), Avenged Sevenfold (Particularly the albums Nightmare and Hail to the King), Pantera (My favorite), Helmet, Type O Negative, and Whitechapel always seem to help me. I know metal isn't for everyone, but the yelling, heavy and fast guitar riffs, and pounding drums just seem to relax me. :p
