Hey kat
It's a tough one.
10mg won't do you much good. May help a tad, but it will bottom out quite soon. But at the same time, it's not nice taking something that feels too strong.
It would be best to get onto a therapeutic dose somehow.
I'd say if the side effects were uncomfortable, give it a week, at least.
You could go back and try another SSRI if you wanted, not all hit you so hard.
If you'd say the side effects were too much to go through, then, I guess don't take it again.
They can make you feel pretty nasty at first before they settle.
Might be worth chatting to your doctor. Both ways you can be successful. If they're happy with you to switch, that can be one way to go. If they want you to continue, that's what you sometimes have to go through to hit the 6 week mark.
If you do continue, and don't like it after a week, it wouldn't be wasted. It would make your next drug settle that bit quicker.

If you can hang in there I would stay at 10mg as it's about to start working. If you cannot tolerate it for sure, drop it or ask about adding a small amount of a benzo like klonopin just for a week or so. You can also skip a day and resume. Might help. Alankay

Hi..I am on day 5 of celexa and feel horrible and I am only taking 2mg in liquid form..Just wanted to let you know, there was study released and the article is in the march 2013 issue of Life Extension magazine. This study was done many years ago, so the info has been out there. They took a SSRI ( I believe they used prozac as a example)..The "theropuetic dose was 20mg..They put the subjects on 5mg and had a 60% success rate. They then put subjects on 20mg and had a 68% success rate..So only a 8% difference showing that most people get the benefits from a much lower dose then stated by the manufacturer..This doctor said some people even had good results on 2.5mg..Not all people metabalize drugs the same..I am very med sensitive and need to be on very low doses.. So Kate being on 10mg is probobly all your body needs...I will be happy if I even make it to 5mg..

Weplant I can totally relate to you! I was like that I was so scared of starting my meds cause everything upsets my stomach and I hate to vomit but that's how sensitive I am and even tho I'm on only 10mg of citalopram It took my body 2 weeks to adjust don't get me wrong I'll take the medicine and still feel like I'm a little in the clouds But after almost 3 weeks it's really not bothering me anymore but the first week was a nightmare I couldn't eat i couldn't sleep everything scared me it was awful! But the second week I noticed got a little bit better I finally got an appetite and was able to sleep more then 4 hours now tomorrow marks 3 weeks for me and I can honestly see the difference I've gotten a lot more confident in myself that I'm doing things little by little to get back to the person I was before this nightmare began good luck to you!

I'm doing well kat, thank you for asking :)
Your news sounds positive, I'm happy for you, and I'm crossing my fingers your plan goes the way you want it to, and I'm sure it will!
If 10mg works for you, it's pretty cool you get effects that low. Usually for cases of anxiety severe enough for people to come and use a forum, people don't see the best of results on low doses.
Like we plant says, you may have the right dose for your metabolism.

I read that study actually, after you mentioned it in your last post.
I found out there's a campaign in Britain to get doctors to prescribe lower doses of some SSRIs. I don't think Celexa is on that list. I'm not sure. So I'll be interested to hear how your experience goes.
I know Lexapro, Zoloft and Prozac are. I can totally understand that actually. I don't think some people need to even go to the therapeutic doses. I remember on Lexapro feeling pretty overwhelmed by the therapeutic dose. I ended up quitting, but maybe going lower would have been good.
It was an interesting read. Thanks.
