Hey guys, I'm Scot.
I'm not really sure what to say about myself as there isn't much worth saying haha. My anxiety has always been around but has only peaked in the last few years. I get worried about almost every little change in my body and think the worst. I'm also noticing how much traveling is bothering me as I catch buses and they're usually packed, and lately I am avoiding going out all together. I have cared for my mother since I was about twelve and she passed away Christmas Day last year. Since then I've gotten worse. My goal is to cope/deal with this without medication, as my mother had severe mental problems and the medication screwed her up more than it seemed to help. It also played a part in her passing so I refuse to be medicated for this.
Honestly I really really don't like the idea of medication controlling how I feel. I am hoping that by finding this forum and others like it that it will help, even if it's the tiniest amount.
Thank you.

Thank you :) and I already get the vibe that everyone on here is amazing. And it is the toughest at the moment with both the anxiety and depression, especially living by myself now, just doesn't feel right by myself so suddenly. I can escape to my girlfriends place but don't want to bother her and her family too much aha I can't wait to get stuck into reading on this forum. Thanks again! :3

Hi Scot You're very welcome. Sorry for your loss Scot. You're right about the reading. There is lots of great info on here. Check out the stickies too. Do you get any therapy now or in the past for your anxiety and depression? Share as you are ready. We are all here to chat whenever. :)
Thank you and no I haven't gotten any therapy, as I don't really have the money for that sort of thing at the moment. Because I spent so much time looking after mum I has barely any qualifications so finding work as a nineteen year old in Australia is really difficult so at the moment I can't really even afford all my bills and shit.

That makes life harder for sure when those pressures are building up. Australia is pretty expensive for sure. As for the therapy I could very well be wrong but I thought a few years ago you could get a certain amount of CBT or psychotherapy for free in the Medicare bulk billing. It was pretty new at the time but perhaps it's been scrapped since then. No harm in asking or checking it out on the net.? We are all here to help in the meantime :)
Yeah I have heard from my doctor about it and they have what they called a mental earth plan or something but only specific psychologists are involved and they're in the worst places. I hate going into the main city here as there are a lot of people I don't want to run into as they remind me of the past. I am in the process of looking for one closer, even if I have to pay it needs to happen aha.

Hey Scot! Welcome! I'm new here too and am trying to find out how to start a thread so I can intro myself to the gang. So sorry to hear about the hills that you have been climbing in your life, and I am so sorry to hear of your mothers' passing-I cannot imagine. I am with you on the meds, and from what I hear and see, a lot of us find the alternative ways to help the most, (massage, acupuncture, meditation, etc.). I am and have been affected diversely from all meds they have tried and am about ready to give up on it AGAIN!! I have never had much faith in the medical industry, and have lost even more in the past few years-they kill A LOT of people daily with their "practice", and psycho drugs are a whole new ball of wax. You're not alone man. Will be talking.

Words of wisdom mate. Could not have said it better myself. At the moment I am currently using the iphone app and to start a thread I think it was somewhere top right of the screen, may be similar if you haven't figured t out already. Keep in touch mate and I hope things work out for the best for every one.
