Lost My Marbles

Hello, I obviously am new to this site, & have never joined a online forum before. I have been around the mental health field for quite sometime.
I was wondering if anyone knows of a health care professional that one can go to, for getting their meds filled (anti-depressant & a anti-anxiety med) other than a psychiatrist? I have found my family doctor knows little, & my psychiatrist won't give me longer than 15 minutes, & he knows little of my past history, or family history. I went to another shrink about two years ago, & it was the same way.
I recently was laid off of my job, & my depression & anxiety levels have escalated immensely. If it weren't for my wife giving me support, I doubt I would be alive.
Does anyone know if a psychologist can write scripts for meds, or a similar professional? Even though I have lost my insurance, I still have some savings.
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

A psychologist can't generally write scripts no, although search it, cos some have license to.

A psychopharmacologist can often prescribe meds. Some are less rushed than the typical psychiatrist, but it depends where you are and whether you can get one. They'll also help you with vitamins, and healthy living if need be.

Shrinks are pretty annoying at times. I've been through London's Oxford street, on Christmas Eve in the busy crowds, and didn't feel as rushed there as I did when having appointments with my shrink. He got the job done, so I could live with it.

Sadly they are the best port of call though for meds.

You say your shrink won't give you longer than 15 mins, is there any reason you want longer? Some problems not being resolved perhaps? Or do you just like a more personal experience when dealing with a fragile issue.

Welcome Larry. Nice to meet you! :)

Look for DO, MD, DPM...

Those qualifications mean a person can prescribe meds.
