Anyone have advised on how to overcome the fear of flying ? I am leaving in 2 weeks to go see my daughter and haven't flown in 14 yrs afraid of dying or having a panic attack on the plane .. Any help would be great

Have you had panic attacks before? If so, what happened and did it stop eventually?

My point is, why does it matter where you are when you panic

It comes. Then goes. And you are always fine?

So don't dwell on being in a certain situation and panicking because the process and result are the same

You will do just fine and I hope you are going somewhere warm

It sucks where I am!

If you contact your GP they will normally provide you with a sedative (Benzo if you are really lucky).

My personal opinion is there is no way to overcome it unless you are flying frequently. I rarely ever endorse medication on this forum but in this instance why make it hard on yourself. (Pop the pill, wake up at your destination) :)

Get the sedative. You will feel better just having that option. I bet though, you will surprise yourself....how well you handle it. Come back and tell us how it was. Have a great trip.

Oh I just read the first post, 14 years it was that long being in Canada, I visited my country after 14 years. I took ativan and one drink and I was calm, relatively calm, of course I had not have any sleep... Back home , home is here, it was easier for me. Maybe because in mental distress... you will be fine:)

Absolutely, everyone on airplane, I mean the staff must know CPR and they do know how to handle medical issue. Have something on you like Ativan (I do always have it in the purse; my safety blanket) or Xanax or whatever maybe KLonopin aka Clonazepam for me.... Maybe a beer would calm you down? It has some calming properties
